Summary

Debuting all the way back in 2002, theBattlefieldfranchise has seen its fair share of hits and misses over the last two decades. With the series arguably at an all-time low, manyBattlefieldfans are remembering the franchise’s glory days, when classes had distinct loadouts and purposes, when maps felt just the right size, and when “Battlefieldmoments” felt organic and genuine. For many long-time fans,Battlefield3is what springs to mind in these moments.

Originally released in October 2011,Battlefield 3is still widely regarded as one of, if not the franchise’s best entry. It made its name by delivering some state-of-the-art visuals and physics systems, along with tight gunplay, memorable maps, satisfying flying mechanics, and encouraging progression systems. But, being well over a decade old at this point,Battlefield 3doesn’t hold up particularly well, and though it might seem incredibly unlikely at this point, aBattlefield 3remake should definitely still be on the cards.

A Battlefield 3 Remake Could Be Exactly What the Franchise Needs

Battlefield 3 Deserves a Remake

Battlefield 3is still widely considered to be one of the best entries in franchise history, and while nostalgia certainly plays a major role in this ruling, it hasn’t gained this reputation for no good reason. To many fans,Battlefield 3felt like the complete package. Continuing on from the realistic approach thatBattlefield Bad Companyand its sequeltried to forge,Battlefield 3delivered a suite of impressive technical features that were well ahead of their time back in 2011, and paired with the game’s stellar vehicle and shooting mechanics,Battlefield 3managed to successfully capture a grounded, immersive atmosphere that instantly set it apart from its competition.

ThoughrecentBattlefieldgames have strayed away from realism, modern video game technology could easily create the most immersiveBattlefieldexperience yet, and the perfect opportunity to create such a game would be aBattlefield 3remake. Though some of its most iconic maps were present inBattlefield 2042’s Portal mode, a full remake ofBattlefield 3would breathe new life into these beloved settings, with modern gaming tech being able to take the game’s destruction physics, environmental damage, lighting, and sound design to new heights.

A Battlefield 3 Remake Could Mend Some Bridges

It’s no secret that theBattlefieldfranchise is in a bit of a rough spot right now. After the disappointing reception ofBattlefield Vandthe disastrous launch ofBattlefield 2042, many fans have lost faith in EA and its ability to produce another high qualityBattlefieldproject. A good way to bring those fans back to the franchise is by simply giving them what they want, and for many, that’s aBattlefield 3remake. Though it could easily come across as a cheap move on EA’s part, a full ground-up remake ofBattlefield 3released with plenty of new features at a fair price could prove that the company still cares deeply about theBattlefieldbrand and its fan-base.

A Battlefield 3 Remake Might Be a Double-Edged Sword for EA

But making aBattlefield 3remake isn’t as simple as it might seem. While aBattlefield 3remake could definitely bring burnt-out fans back to the franchise, it could also end up interfering with EA’s future plans. It’s been heavily rumored thatthe nextBattlefieldgame will return to the series' rootsin a number of different ways, one of which is a return to a present-day setting. WhileBattlefield 3is technically set in 2014, its modern-day conflict might look and feel a little too similar to EA’s next entry. On top of that, releasing a highly-requested remake likeBattlefield 3could end up overshadowing the nextBattlefieldentry if they were released within close proximity of one another. Unfortunately, it seems as though aBattlefield 3remake might still be a pipe dream, at least for now.
