Players expected there to be a lot of bosses in theElden RingDLCShadow of the Erdtree, but few expected just how many would be available for players to tackle in both main and side content. Though the total number ofnamed bosses in theElden RingDLCis just about 40, only eleven of them either reward a Remembrance or are of significant enough importance and design quality to be called a majorShadow of the Erdtreeboss.

Many of these major bosses inShadow of the Erdtreeare not required to beat the DLC, and instead are found way off the beaten path, often unlocked by enigmatic questsor hidden deep belowwhat looked like an innocuous hole in the ground. ThisElden Ring DLCboss list includes all the bosses you must defeat to access and beat the final boss, other optional Remembrance bosses, and one particularly savage Dragon that resides atop the Jagged Peak that does not reward a Remembrance.

Romina in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Updated July 25 ,2024 by Erik Petrovich: There are a lot of new bosses in Shadow of the Erdtree, but not all of them are required to beat the game. Though many major Elden Ring DLC bosses grant Remembrances (or a similar item that can be traded for boss items), there is one required boss fight in your way of finishing the DLC that does not:the Needle Knight Ledaboss fight. Encountered just before the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree, Leda’s boss fight takes the form of a multi-invader brawl, one that changes depending on which quests you decided to finish in the DLC. This guide has been updated to include this second-to-last of the Elden Ring DLC required bosses, including a basic overview of what to expect and how to reach Leda’s location.

This list containsspoilers for all major bosses inShadow of the Erdtree, including the finalShadow of the Erdtreeboss. Do not scroll past Metyr, Mother of Fingers to the Final Boss section if you want to keep this knowledge hidden.

12Divine Beast Dancing Lion

Location: Belurat, Town Settlement

The first major boss most players will come across in the Realm of Shadow is the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. This fearsome enemy is thefinal boss of the Belurat, Tower Settlement legacy dungeon, and it sets a high bar that the rest of theShadow of the ErdtreeDLC’s bosses meet or exceed.

The boss can be tough if you don’t findScadutree Fragmentin the Gravesite Plain and beyond. Aim to have aScadutree Blessing level of around 4 or 5before taking this boss on to make the entire fight much easier.

10Commander Gaius

Location: Scaduview

After beating Rellana and reaching the Shadow Keep in the northwest of the Realm of Shadow, the path becomes much less linear, and the number of areas to explore andnew bosses to take onexpands greatly. If you do decide to go to the Shadow Fort, there are no less than three more Remembrance bosses to find and defeat. Commander Gaius is the first many players run into.

The Wild Boar Rider might remind you of fighting Ganon in theZeldaseries or perhaps the Gyobu Masataka Oniwa fight fromSekiro: Shadows Die Twice. He will use a similar move set as a Night’s Cavalry with a huge number of his own attacks mixed in – includinggravity magic.

9Scadutree Avatar

Location: Scadutree Base

The Scadutree Avatar is another major boss you’re able to find in the Shadow Keep. This gigantic Shadow Sunflower has one of the most unique boss designs in the game, though its basic move set seems toimitate the Elden Beastin some ways.

You must beat this boss three times to actually defeat it, as it keeps growing and gaining new abilities. Each time it respawns with less HP.

8Putrescent Knight

Location: Stone Coffin Fissure

The Putrescent Knight is said to be apersonification of deathin the Lands Between and Putrescence from coffins flowing to the Realm of Shadow and sinking into thedepths of the Stone Coffin Fissue itself. This congealed and became the Putrescent Knight, which now guards a very special person deep underneath the Cerulean Coast.

The Putrescent Knight is on horseback and is quite nimble, though it will periodically jump off its horse and attack as two separate entities. Pay attention to its horse, and be sure to jump over the waves of Ghostflame that it will blast out.

How To Get To Putrescent Knight

To reach the Putrescent Knight location, you must go deep below the gigantic hole in the ground at thesouthern tip of the Cerulean Coast. 7Messmer The Impaler

Location: Shadow Keep

He’s the guy from the trailers – Messmer the Impaler, thehidden son of Queen Marikaand head of her crusade in the Shadow Realm, serves as one of the final required bosses for theElden RingDLC. Helives up to his formidable reputationand serves as one of the most challenging – but not the most unfair – bosses inShadow of the Erdtree.

Messmer the Impaler was born with a curse like the other children of Marika. When he reveals this curse in Phase Two, take care to avoid hisflurry of empowered attacksusing this newfound strength – just take care to avoid the snakes.

How To Get To Messmer The Impaler

6Romina, Saint of The Bud

Location: Ancient Ruins of Rauh

Romina, Saint of the Bud is one of the last bosses that many players take on in theElden RingDLC – in fact,Romina is the last 100% required bossyou must face before being able to access the final boss. Deep in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, Romina, Saint of the Bud, is a Scarlet Rot-themed boss, and as a result, it can be handy to bring gear with extra Immunity to this fight.

Essentially a woman’s body attacked to the middle of a gigantic scorpion-centipede monstrosity, Romina, Saint of the Bud telegraphs attacks and doesn’t have any one-shot kills, but it’s a good idea to bringFlame, Cleanse MeorPreserving Bolusesto the fight to make things easier.

How To Get To Romina, Saint of The Bud

To reach the Romina, Saint of The Bud location, you must reach thesouthwestern tip of the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, which itself can only be accessed through a secret path through the Shadow Keep.

5Bayle The Dread

Location: Jagged Peak

Though technically not a Remembrance boss, Bayle the Dread is an absoluteforce of naturethat terrorized (and betrayed)Lord Placidusax in the time of the Ancient Dragons. In fact, you can still see two of Placidusax’s heads stuck onto the armless body of the Dread Bayle.

Arguablyone of the hardest fights inShadow of the Erdtree, Bayle the Dread attack relentlessly with a number of AoE attacks, and you can’t ride Torrent in his arena. However, summonIgonto provide a distraction and some incredible voice acting that might just inspire you to finish the job.

How To Get To Bayle The Dread

4Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame

Location: Abyssal Woods

Midra, the Lord of Frenzied Flame is one of the most hyped bosses for a lot of players. An enormous elaboration for the Frenzied Flame lore and representation in the Lands Between, Midra’s boss fight is one of themost cinematic and just plain fun in the game. It begins with the Tarnished wailing on the ailing body of Midra, who transitions into a Lord Of Frenzied FlameElden Ringending-like boss for his second phase.

This boss might seem unfair, but spend some time learning his attack combos and timings, and you will come out on the other end without being turned to madness. Consider bringing along consumables that increase Focus as well as equipping gear that enhances this stat in particular, as it will reduce Madness buildup.

How To Get To Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame

To reach the Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame location, you mustfind the Abyssal Woods, a secret area where Torrent won’t even come to your side out of fear. The Abyssal Woods can only be accessed by beating Jori, Elder Inquisitor, who can only be found by taking a Coffin hidden below the bridge near the Shadow Keep Main Promenande site of grace.

3Metyr, Mother of Fingers

Location: Finger Birthing Grounds

One of the most disturbing and lore-changing bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is surely Metyr, Mother of Fingers. A hidden boss, Metyr is quite literally the mother to all of the Fingers in the world – the Fingercreepers, the Two Fingers, and the Three Fingers, too. It’s aterrifying boss to look at for too long, but luckily, by the time most players reach Metyr its move set is actually not too hard to handle.

Watch out for the attacks when they spin in the air and launch toward you, and prepare to dodge at the very last possible moment to avoid damage.Keep on attacking the very frontof this monstrosity, and land hits on its head to kill it.

How To Get To Metyr, Mother of Fingers

To reach the Metyr, Mother of Fingers location, you mustprogress Count Ymir’s questline. He will give you an item to use at two locations in the Realm of Shadow and reveal the third location (and the Boss) after you return to him with both of these locations activated.
