YouTube channel Digital Foundry published a video analyzingBaldur’s Gate 3Act 3, revealing that the performance problem experienced by some PCs comes from the higher quantity of NPCs in this part of the game. Digital Foundry received a 99-hour save to explore Act 3 with PCs of different configurations, noting that the density of Baldur’s Gate City takes a heavy toll on the CPU compared to the rest of the game. Another problem noticed in Act 3 comes from the camera transitions in cutscenes or conversations, which happen more frequently. Act 3 can become an even bigger nightmare for thoseplaying a Sorcerer inBaldur’s Gate 3, as summoning creatures increases the risk of performance loss and erratic frame rates.

The analysis concludes that Act 3 ofBaldur’s Gate 3becomes problematic for some PCs, as having so much more to process amplifies the CPU limitations. Unfortunately, there is no solution to the problem, as according to the analysis playing at the lowest settings inBaldur’s Gate 3only increases average performance by 14%. Digital Foundry urges Larian Studios to improve general performance, particularly onBaldur’s Gate 3Act 3.

Larian has not commented on the performance issue caused by Act 3 ofBaldur’s Gate 3. Nevertheless, Larian Studios has already stated that it intends to release a major update beforeBaldur’s Gate 3arrives on PS5. Since the studio has also been working on fixes with frequent hotfixes, players are waiting to find out ifBaldur’s Gate 3’s performance issues will get fixed soon.
