Summary
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, United States congressional representative from New York, has confirmed that she’ll be returning toTwitchfor an upcoming stream. Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC as she’s often referred to, first came toTwitchin 2020. She drew over 400,000 viewers to herAmong Usgames with top Twitch streamers including HasanAbi and Pokimane. Now AOC will be returning to the streaming platform for yet more games, not to mention some campaigning for her 2024 reelection.
AOC first came to Twitch in 2020 while campaigning for her first reelection. She leaped at the opportunity presented by the popularity ofAmong Us, seeking to reach out to young voters that could be difficult to reach through traditional means. HerAmong Uslobby included an all-star cast of Twitch streamers, including HasanAbi, Pokimane, Disguised Toast, Hbomb, Corpse Husband, Hbomb, and DrLupo. Her fellow congressional representative Ilhan Omar also joined up for someAmong Us.

While AOC’s next reelection won’t take place until 2024, the US representative will be returning to Twitch soon. AOC announced on Twitter on Thursday that a session of streaming has been scheduled. Fans can tune in to her broadcast on Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 PM (assumedly ET). AOC doesn’t mention specifically what they’ll be playing, butgiven past hints it’s very likely to be more rounds ofAmong Us.
The first Twitch streamer name that AOC has confirmed will be part of her group is none other thanpolitically-minded streamer HasanAbi, the same streamer that helped AOC get up and running in 2020. No other names were mentioned in AOC’s initial tweet, but there will be “Special guests.” A reply from Pokimane also makes it rather clear that she’ll be included, too. Pokemon said, “2020AMONG USRERUN? SeE YOU THERE!” and AOC responded with an affirmation. Don’t be surprised to see other familiar faces, too.
At least for the moment, it doesn’t appear that AOC’s planned Twitch stream is explicitly a campaign event. While congressional representatives are often seen as always campaigning, since they’re reelected every two years, AOC’s Twitter account is otherwise focused on issues rather than votes. It’s possible thatAOC will use her Twitch streamto draw attention to a specific event, bill, or issue, though.
It seems increasingly true that politicians are disconnected from their constituents and millennials and Generation Z, especially. AOC, currently the youngest woman in Congress, sees a unique opportunity for outreach in streaming on Twitch. She also simply seems to enjoy streaming and playing games. Whether AOC delivers politics or a straightforward gamingTwitchstream on Saturday at 7:30 PM ET, it should be an interesting experience.
