InBaldur’s Gate 3, with the amazing choice of weapons and the abilities that each of them offers, it is easy for a player, especially a newcomer to this type of game, to get completely confused. Eachcategory of weaponsoffers something different and unique, and depending on someone’s play style, they should choose accordingly.
When it comes to spears,Baldur’s Gate 3offers quite the selection. Spears are Versatile weapons that can be used in one hand or two, with two-handed attacks dealing 2 more damage at the cost of not being able to use a shield. They only require Simple Proficiency and deal Piercing damage. Every Spear inBG3comes with the Rush Attack action which causes the wielder to charge and attack the first enemy hit, possibly knocking them Off Balance.

1d6 Piercing

Found in many mundane places
When everything else fails, the player can just grab aPitchforkand hope for the best. Literally. This simple, very simple, extremely simple, super-duper simple, weapon, has the advantage that it is as straightforward as it gets. Itdeals piercing damageof 1d6 and has a range of 1.5 meters. Unlike other spears, it can only be used with two hands.
Apart from that, it also has the advantage of a Rush Attack action, which means that the player can push an enemy Off Balance. The other, less useful, advantage, is that the player can be proud of themselves for killing someone with a pitchfork. It’s not every day that someone gets to use that phrase. These farming tools can be found throughout the game in random places.

The wielder of this weapon can deal 1d6 piercing damage if they use the weapon one-handed, and 1d8 piercing damage if they use the weapon two-handed. TheSpearis what the title says: a spear. Very sincere and forthright, but by no means it is to be scoffed.
While it gives no extra abilities, and it is low-profile, in the right hands,thisBaldur’s Gate 3melee weapon can do a lot of damage. It offers the advantage of Rush Attack and can be found on many early-game enemies and in a few shops.

There’s no great mystery here either. TheSpear +1, is what the name suggests: a Spear with a bit of extra oomph. It is perfect forplayers who like magicas well as straightforwardness. One-handed, it can deal 1d6+1 piercing damage; meanwhile, two-handed, it deals 1d8+1 piercing damage. Not bad at all.
As with the others,Spear +1offers Rush Attack, but unlike the previous ones, it also offers Weapon Enchantment +1, which means that attacks are more likely to hit. It can be purchased fromthe Merchant Dammonat the Druid Grove.

There isn’t too much special about theSpear +2, as it has no unique effects or actions, other than the Rush Attack, which all Spears come with. Its Weapon Enchantment +2, however, does mean it deals good damage and is more likely to hit enemies, as the +2 bonus is also added to Attack Rolls.
The glaring issue with the Spear +2, however, is that it can only be found right at the end of the game, by which time players will almost certainly have acquired better weapons. If players really feel the need to collect all Spears inBG3though, it is carried by the Breaker of War, who, under certain circumstances, appears in the final fight.
Uncommon
Torturous Edges:Tortured creatures may receive Disadvantage on Constitution Saving Throws. Triggered when hitting a target with this weapon
Near the Torturer in the Shattered Sanctum in Act 1.
TheJagged Spearis a perfect way to keep the player’s enemies at a distance and make them less threatening. This is because, thanks to Torturous Edges, enemies will be less likely to have successful Attack Rolls after taking damage from the weapon.
It offers classic spear damage, 1d6 piercing when it is one-handed, and 1d8 piercing when it is two-handed, as well as the Rush Attack. TheJagged Spearcan be foundnext to Torturer Spikeand his victim in the Shattered Sanctum.
Dank Crypt in Act 1.
When the player gets any weapon that has an ability called Death’s Promise, then said player knows that things are about to get messy. WithThe Watcher’s Guidespear, the wielder has an Advantage on their next roll against an enemy, if they missed hitting them the first time around.
It can be found in the Dank Crypt, inside a sarcophagus. But the player must be aware thatin order to open the sarcophagus, they have to solve a puzzle that’s not all that easy.
North of the House of Healing in Act 2.
TheLightning JabberSpear is a decent option for the mid-game, and, thankfully, this is where it can be found. On top of its Weapon Enchantment +1, it also has an on-hit effect which might Shock targets with lightning. When enemies are Shocked, they cannot use Reactions, and have Disadvantage on Dexterity Ability Checks and Saving Throws. This means players have more control over a fight. Throwing this Spear will alsodeal extra Lightning damage.
To find the Lightning Jabber Spear, players will need to willingly walk into a Cursed Kuo-Toa ambush, north of the House of Healing, during Act 2. It is dropped by a chief.
Absolute Night:Blind targets that fail a Dexterity Saving Throw. Deals an additional 2d6 Piercing damage to certain creatures that sport multiple sets of eyes.
With a name such as this, one can’t help but expect great things from this spear. And that one won’t be disappointed, as theVision Of The Absoluteis an uncommon magic weapon that promises the wielder the ability of Absolute Night. This means that they have a chance to blind their target.
Moreover, it means that if the player hits creatures that have more than two eyes (and there are quite a few), then the damage to them is an additional 2d6. To find it, though, is a bit of a treasure hunt. The Shaft of the spear can be found in the Druid Grove, on the body of Edowin. The Head can befound on the Owlbear mother. To craft the spear, use “combine” in the inventory, and voilà!
Rare
Shar’s Blessing:If Shar allows it, use this spear to kill Nightsong.
Reward for completing the Gauntlet of Shar in Act 2.
If spears have something more than all the other weapon categories, that would be the ominous-sounding names.Spear of Nightis a rare magic weapon, and even though it doesn’t sound like it has a lot more than the otherbest spears inBaldur’s Gate 3, it has something that is completely unique.
This spear has something called Shar’s Blessing. What this means, is that the wielder, if Shar allows it, can use it to kill Nightsong. Other than that, it offers what the standard spears do, plus Weapon Enchantment +1. It can be found uponcompleting the Gauntlet of Shar.
Infernal Weapon:On a hit, the affected entity deals an additional 3 Poison damage and can possibly Poison its target.
Wyrm’s Rock Fortress in Act 3
Despite only being a Rare item, theInfernal Spearis one of the best spears inBG3in terms of damage. This is thanks to the +3 Poison damage it deals on top of the standard Piercing damage, although given the spears name, players could be forgiven for thinking it would deal Fire damage.
To get their hands on this weapon, players will have toreach Act 3 of the gameand in Wyrm’s Rock Fortress, it can be looted from either Iron Conusl Mian, or Nuff.
