Summary
Among the gameplay features that makeDragon Ball Xenoverse 2quite the unique experience is its inclusion of customizable characters. Aside from creating one’s ownDragon Ballcharacter,Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2actually lets players customize not just the costumes but even the skillsets of various characters.
Not only that, but certain items in thisDragon Ballprovide both gameplay impact and a bit of a tease with regard to Easter Eggs. One such feature isSuper Souls, essentially “catchphrases” or “essences” that can be equipped and that reflect a particular character’s spirit, mood, or tone in their appearance. In the game, certain Super Souls can give players a tremendous advantage in combat.

Updated June 17, 2025 by Rhenn Taguiam:With Akira Toriyama teasing a brand new adventure for Goku and friends in Dragon Ball Daima, fans of the Z-Fighters and their journeys to save the universe may want to create their own warrior to fight alongside their favorite Dragon Ball characters.
In that regard, players may want to equip these characters with the right Super Souls, especially if their bonuses fall in line with the kind of playstyles players want to pursue. Included among recommended Super Souls are the ones used by a God of Destruction, the Fusion between Goku and Vegeta’s children, a Saiyan from another world, and even an evil version of Goku.

15"Before Creation Comes Ruin…" (Beerus)
Abeing as powerful as Beerusdoesn’t have to lift a finger unless he absolutely has to, a trait perfectly encapsulated by his Super Soul,“Before Creation Comes Ruin…”that capitalizes on a character’s Ki-Blasts with an XL Bonus. When Limit Bursting, the Super Soul boosts ATK and Ki Auto-Recovery as well as speeding up Stamina Recovery SPD.
The straightforward nature of this Super Soul makes it an ideal cornerstone for a Ki-centric player’s arsenal. Using Beerus or a long-range specialist and equipping them with this Super Soul ensures they maintain the advantage of distance while getting a much-needed bonus for ranged attacks. With the right toolkit, players can keep on poking opponents without giving them room to strike back.

14"I’ll Make You Regret That!" (Cabba)
The humble Cabba is by no means a pushover, and his Super Soul“I’ll Make You Regret That!”ensures his enemies feel his fury as soon as heturns into a Super Saiyan. When assuming the upgrade form, he gains an XL Boost to Normal Attacks, with an M Boost to Melee Attacks. In addition, his Limit Burst grants him a boost in Stamina Recovery on top of upgrades to his ATK and Ki Auto-Recovery.
Despite the straightforward nature of this Super Soul, the bonuses to both Normal and Melee Attacks incentivize more careful combo play on the part of players. This advantage makes this Super Soul an ideal starting ground for newcomers just learning the game’s ropes, especially combo rotations and strings.

13"I’m Still Not Used To This Form!" (Super Saiyan 3 Goku)
Prior to his more powerful Super Saiyan 4 and Super Saiyan God Forms, Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 was the final benchmark ofall Super Saiyan forms. During his first few times using this, SSJ3 not only drained Goku’s energy reserves, but it started to take a toll on his lifespan as well. This is reflected by“I’m Still Not Used To This Form!”which is a Super Soul that grants an XL Boost to Ki-Blast Skills in exchange for Ki Depletion during Super Saiyan forms.
During Limit Bursts, users receive boosts to ATK and Ki Auto-Recovery as well as Stamina Recovery Speed. Despite the constant Ki Depletion, comboing into Limit Bursts should allow players to recover lost Ki quickly before dishing out attacks once more. When used right, SSJ3 can unleash Ki Skills fast enough to finish a match before running out.

12"Damn… Gonna Have To Go All Out!" (Gotenks)
Goten and Trunksfusing into Gotenksbecame one of the many trump cards Earth had in the fight against Majin Buu, with only the combined form’s inner braggart being their biggest flaw. With“Damn… Gonna Have To Go All Out!”Gotenks is finally shaken into fighting properly, which in theDragon Ballgame meant getting an XXL Boost to both Movement Speed and all Attacks. The user also gains Auto Just Guard during Limit Bursts, boosting his defenses.
At its core, the immense bonuses to base performance give players all the more reason to outpace opponents by staying up close. The buff in Movement Speed and Auto Just Guards during Limit Bursts incentivizes riskier plays, allowing players to stop enemies from cheesing Ki Blasts by juggling them in their combos.

Thepure-hearted Gokubecoming evil is a frightening prospect that the malevolent Goku Black presented to the Z-Warriors, especially when his Super Saiyan Rose form proved to potentially outmatch Goku’s own Super Saiyan Blue. InXenoverse 2gameplay, Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black also boasts“I Like You Better When You’re Mad!”, a Super Soul that always works whenever he breaks the guard of an opponent. When this happens, Guard Breaks restore Goku Black’s Ki in exchange for shortening their duration. In Limit Bursts, Goku Black now gets Auto Health and Stamina Recovery at the cost of lowered Defense.
With this Super Soul, players get an incentive to go on the offensive. Even with the penalty of having shorter Guard Breaks, each instance healing his Ki means Goku Black is rewarded for staying put and unleashing his Ki Blasts to heal his Stamina.

10"You Must Die By My Hand!"
Used by: Frieza (1st Form), Frieza (Final Form), Frieza (Full Power)
Despite Goku and Vegeta’s long-lasting rivalry, it’s Frieza who is arguably the most iconic supervillain in the entirety of theDragon Ballfranchise. It makes sense that his“You must die by my hand!”Super Soul reflects this conviction of killing Goku with his own hands inhis final transformation, and this is reflected in the tenacity this provides.

With this Super Soul, a character survives the first knockout with a single point of HP. Not only that, this temporarily nullifies all damage and even gives a temporary boost to all Ki Blasts. Players reliant on long-range play will especially appreciate this survivability boost, especially since the right dodges can help players pull off a counter-offensive just as easily.
9"Don’t Quit! Get Up!"
Used by: Frost
An alternative to “You must die by my hand!”,Frieza’s equivalent Frostfrom Universe 6 has a similar Super Soul,“Don’t quit! Get up!”that allows characters to get up from the direst of situations. Again, using this gives players one shot at skipping a KO in favor of a 1-point HP bar. This still gives temporary nullification from attacks.
However, the new thing here is how the ability boosts the potency of melee attacks. Players who love playing up close and personal can have “Don’t quit! Get up!” as a last-resort gambit, especially if their characters specialize in rushdowns and staggering moves that can stun opponents to oblivion when caught.

8"Hmm Hmm Hmmm! Hm Hmmm! Hmmm!"
Used by: Elder Kai
It’s thanks to the likes ofElder Kai that Goku managed to tap into his potential throughout the years inDragon Ball, and it’s this level of support that can help players become more capable of helping allies from the backlines. With“Hmm Hmm Hmmm! Hm Hmmm! Hmmm!”, players will always shorten their allies’ revival time. This immediately makes them more capable of turning the tide of combat in longer incursions.
Not only that but with Awoken Skills and Reinforcement Skills Activated, this Super Soul will immediately activate Health Auto-Recovery for all allies. This immediately gives everyone a better fighting chance in combat, as they are always in a state of health recovery. While this means players may sacrifice more aggressive bonuses, the healing-related perks can drastically boost the team’s survivability.

7"This Oughta Make Things Interesting."
Used by: Broly
Despite appearing only in films,Broly the Legendary Super Saiyanhas become one of the most iconic foes inDragon Ballhistory due to his sheer tankiness, taking the forces of all existing Super Saiyans at the time and a completely new transformation to defeat him. As such, it’s no surprise that he’s such a coveted character in anyDragon Ballgame, and his arrival inDragon Ball Xenoverse 2is no different. This is especially true with this Super Soul,“This oughta make things interesting,”which is best used against transforming opponents.
With this Super Soul, a character gets a medium boost to all attacks as soon as opponents activate a power-up. What’s more impressive is how this ability can stack up to ten (10) times, potentially putting pose-reliant enemies at a standstill. The fact that this Super Soul outright punishes transformations, a key component in the game, with player buffs does make this ability live up to its name - it does make combat interesting.
6"Please, You Gotta Believe Me!"
Used by: Raditz
It’s during the arrival ofthe villain RaditzinDragon Ball Zthat both Goku and viewers were informed of the protagonist’s alien heritage, eventually becoming the catalyst that transforms the series into the lowkey sci-fi martial arts franchise it’s known today. In the gameplay ofDragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Raditz has the perfect line to answer the disbelief of his little brother Goku and viewers:“Please, you gotta believe me!”
Regardless of how appropriate this line is in the context ofDragon Ballhistory, this is also a nifty emergency Super Soul to have for players just about to enter the PVP scene. With this ability, players who experience a Guard Break for the first time will not only temporarily reduce the enemy’s movement speed, but also severely weaken enemy attacks for a short while. This immediately punishes enemies who are reliant on Stamina breaks, giving players a shot to dominate combat.
