Since the completion of the highly successful adaptation ofAki Hamaji’sBocchi the Rock!anime series and the popularity of the in-universe quartet, Kessoku Band, in real life, a compilation movie of the first season of the anime has been announced for next Spring. Aniplex took to YouTube on Sunday to broadcast a trailer announcing the upcoming film, which will essentially be a recap of the events that took place in the anime.
TheBocchi the Rock!anime series was produced by CloverWorks and ran for 12 episodes in Fall 2022. A brand-new key visual for the film, as well as a lyric video to Kessoku Band’s upcoming song, “Hikari no Naka e” (Into the Light), were released along with the trailer.

Bocchi the Rock!was originally a 4-koma manga created by Aki Hamaji and serialized in Houbunsha’s seinen magazine Manga Time Kirara Max since December 2017, initially as a guest work, receiving a full serialization the following March. It has been compiled into five volumes as of December 2022, and is currently ongoing. The manga is currently published in English by Yen Press. The television anime series produced by CloverWorks was directed by Keiichirō Saitō with assistance from Yūsuke Yamamoto, scripts written by Erika Yoshida, and character designs by Kerorira.
TheBocchi the Rock!anime series aired from October to December 2022, running for 12 episodes. The series opening theme song was “Seishun Complex” performed by the mainin-universe musical outfit, Kessoku Band; with four ending themes performed by Kessoku Band: “Distortion” from episode 1 - 3; “Karakara” from episode 4 - 7, “Nani ga Warui” from episode 8 - 11 and then a special Kessoku Band cover of the ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION song “Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu”. Since the anime’s end, Kessoku Band has earned nearly one million Spotify listeners, topping Japan’s Weekly Billboard Chart from December 21-28.
Their self-titled album contains various songs from the anime series, such as the opening theme “Seishun Complex”; the first ending “Distortion”; “Guitar, Solitude, and the Blue Planet” and more. The series received high acclaim forits depiction of social anxiety, its brilliant visuals and for its comedy. It won “Anime of the Year” in the 2023 Anime Trending Awards, along with seven other category wins, leaving theBocchi the Rock!anime’s haul at the event at a whopping eight awards in total – an Anime Trending Awards record. The upcomingBocchi the Rock!compilation movie has been announced for Spring 2024, while the new Kessoku Band track will be dropping on Wednesday, May 24.
