WhenCall of Duty: Modern WarfareSeason 6 first launched, it did so with two new weapons that players could try in multiplayer and in theWarzonebattle royale. However, fans quickly came to realize that both the SP-R 208 marksman rifle and the AS VAL were extremely overpowered, and the weapons have become two of the most-used in the game ever since. Infinity Ward has acted fast, releasing a new patch forModern Warfarethat addresses concerns about the guns, nerfing them both heavily.
The AS VAL nerf is pretty simple. Basically, players were able to shoot through walls with no damage reduction when the AS VAL was equipped with SSP 10-R Mags, and so now that that’s fixed, the weapon is much less overpowered. TheSP-R 208, however, required more extensive changes. There is no a reduction to the gun’s ADS speed, an increase to flinch, plus reduction to bullet velocity and ADS speed when using the Lapua Mag ammo types. This is potentially a huge nerf that will make the gun significantly less powerful, so fans may want to cycle it out of their loadouts.

While theAS VALand SP-R 208 nerfs are definitely going to get the most attention from the community, the newModern Warfareupdate also nerfs the SKS slightly, reducing its ADS speed when using variable zoom scopes.
TheModern WarfareUpdate for October 8 also comes with a fix for an issue that has been plaguingCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers as well. For the uninitiated, a bug inWarzoneallowed players to abuse the new Subway fast-travel system. It allowed players to survive in the gas, giving them a significant and unfair advantage over their competition. As of the latest update, theSubway glitch inWarzoneshould no longer work.
It will be interesting to see how theCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandWarzonecommunities react to the new update. It will also be interesting to see if the updates are actually effective at nerfing the weapons. While they sound pretty comprehensive on paper, there have been instances in the past where attempted nerfs have inadvertently made weapons more powerful, as was the case with the.725 shotgunat one point.
