Call of Duty: Vanguardis the franchise’s latest and arguably most ridiculous rendition of WW2 combat, not least due to the game’s insistence on usingModern Warfare’s meticulous Gunsmith weapon customization system. While the community has come to terms with being able to slap reflex sights and the like onto MP-40 SMGs, balancing remains a huge point of contention.
Specifically, theCall of Duty: Vanguardcommunity is now unhappy with the newest addition to the game’s arsenal: the Whitley LMG, which most players agree is completely overpowered. The issue isn’t necessarily with the weapon’s default configuration, but with some of its mods and customization options, to which there doesn’t seem to be a real counter.

It’s hardly a secret that theCOD: VanguardWhitley LMG is incredibly unbalancedat this point. As Reddit user Kingtinkerer102 puts it, the Whitley can be upgraded with .50 BMG ammunition that deals more damage with body shots than it does via headshots and bolstered even further with 150-round drum magazines that increase its damage by a further 70% at a minimal reduction of fire-rate. With just a few more modifications and some extra perks, the Whitley becomes a veritable monstrosity that cannot be outgunned.
AsCall of Duty: Vanguardadds more weaponswith each new update, the game’s precarious balance keeps getting contested over and over again. While the Whitley LMG is the most egregious example of PvP balancing gone bad yet, there’s no going around the fact thatVanguard’s sandbox is remarkably unstable in Season 2. A meta Whitley build with Piercing Vision will easily rack up dozens of kills while players using any other weapon/Perk combo cannot properly counter it.
It doesn’t help thatVanguardhas map exploits that turn players unkillablein certain hiding spots. A player that’s particularly keen on breaking each and every match and practically cheating their way to victory simply needs to know what loadout to equip and how to break the game map in just the right way.
While weapons such as the Whitley LMG represent the current pinnacle of the game’s combat sandbox, other items remain almost completely useless.COD: Vanguard’s Field Upgrades are widely criticizedas basically worthless, with community members such as Kingtinkerer102 voicing their critique of the game’s current state over and over again. It’s unclear whether the game’s current sandbox issues will be patched up sooner or later, as it currently stands.
Call of Duty: Vanguardis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
