The Phantom Liberty DLC forCyberpunk 2077should further help the game’s recovered reputation, but it would be missing out on a major asset without a popular character’s inclusion. After a long period of bugfixes following the game’s disastrous original release,Cyberpunk 2077is finally in a respectable spot, with the game now being considered a high-quality title. With DLC on the way, the game will have a chance to grow further and become even better than before. With everything that Phantom Liberty can provide, one of the smartest moves would be a cameo by a popular character.
With the announcement ofCyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC, there are a few details that have already been confirmed. Phantom Liberty will open up a new area of Night City for the story of the DLC to take place, and it will also have its own set of characters involved in the plot. Considering that the game has already received several additions through smaller updates, it’s worth looking forward to what a full DLC campaign can bring to the world of Night City.Cyberpunk 2077has enough plot threads that could be spun off into an exciting new part of the adventure.

Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Deserves Recognition in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Arguably the first step towards recovery was Netflix’sCyberpunk 2077anime prequel,Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The show featured a cast of interesting characters, and it gave players a look at Night City in a new medium. However, similar to howCyberpunk 2077features many tragedies,Cyberpunk:Edgerunnersends with the protagonists wiped out aside from leading lady Lucy and minor character Falco.
With Lucy living on the moon and the rest of the gang gone, it explains why there were no signs ofCyberpunk:Edgerunners' protagonists inCyberpunk 2077. However, with how positivelyCyberpunk:Edgerunnerswas received, Phantom Liberty may choose to give it a nod. Since Lucy is still alive, albeit out of the plot, she could be referenced even thoughthe Phantom Liberty DLC will not feature a rumoredCyberpunk: Edgerunnerscharacter. Granted, with her living on the moon, it would be difficult, if not impossible for Lucy to be an active participant. That doesn’t completely disqualify her from having a part in the DLC, though. For example, Lucy’s outfit could be added as an Easter egg for players to find, or unlocked through a new quest.
It’s also possible that Lucy herself could make an appearance, possibly through a transmission or braindance made available in the update as a gift for fans of the anime. If Lucy gets a shout-out, it wouldn’t be the first time thatCyberpunk:Edgerunnersgot recognition in the main game. TheCyberpunk: Edgerunnersupdate forCyberpunk 2077offered several new locations from the anime for players to find around Night City.
It even added David’s jacket and Rebecca’s shotgun for players to find and equip for themselves. WithCyberpunk: Edgerunnersbeing accepted intoCyberpunk 2077through that update, then it’s reasonable to assume that Lucy may have a chance at getting further recognition, especially as the gang’s only full surviving member by the end. Plus, consideringCyberpunk: Edgerunners' popularity, it’s likely that the reference would be appreciated.
Lucy’s story may have taken her away from Night City, but that doesn’t mean thatCyberpunk 2077can’t remind players of her. After all,Cyberpunk: Edgerunnerswas important forCyberpunk 2077’s comeback, so paying respect to that would be a good move on the game’s part. Plus, Lucy didn’t get much content from theCyberpunk: Edgerunnersupdate despite her vital role, so Phantom Liberty could be an opportunity to reverse that. The role ofCyberpunk: Edgerunnersin the game’s legacy cannot be understated, and for that reason, Lucy has more than earned some recognition inCyberpunk 2077’s upcoming DLC.
Cyberpunk 2077is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
