TheDanganronpa Decadencecollection will see players re-enroll at the murder high schools. Here they will be held captive by an evil teddy bear known only as Monokuma and forced to murder their new friends. This is the cycle ofDanganronpa, and each new adventure compounds on the trauma and despair of the game before it. It’s been 4 years since the last time fans visited the despair academies, and theDanganronpa Decadencecollection will seek to re-introduce a new audience to the series.

At E3 2021, Nintendo’s showcase revealed some of its upcoming games for the Switch. This included the collection ofmurder mystery games,Danganronpa Decadence. This collection will be a physical-only exclusive, but the Nintendo eShop will still host each game separately. This collection comes as a surprise, as many fans had written off the future ofDanganronpaafterDanganronpa V3: Killing Harmony’s divisive finale. However, maybe it doesn’t have to be the end toDanganronpa’s story.

Danganronpa Decadence Collection Comes with a Bonus

In the middle of theNintendo Direct at E3 2021, Monokuma’s face appeared on-screen with sinister glowing red eyes. Last year was the tenth anniversary of the firstDanganronpa, but COVID-19 prevented many of the celebrations that Spike Chunsoft had planned. Chunsoft released a video earlier this year stating that fans hadn’t seen the end ofDanganronpayet, and now it seems this collection was part of the developer’s plans.

Announced for theDanganronpa Decadencecollection were the three main games,Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, andDanganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. However, theDanganronpacollection will also feature a new standalone game from the series calledDanganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp. This is an expanded version of one of the mini-games that accompanied the second and thirdDanganronpagames.

Danganronpa Decadence

With this collection, players will have potentially a hundred hours of content fromDanganronpatrialsto enjoy. If players can make it all the way through without fainting, they’ll be properly set up for the franchise if Spike Chunsoft decides to release another main lineDanganronpagame.

The Potential for a New Danganronpa Sequel

Danganronpahas grown a cult-following due to its themes and cast of interesting characters. The series' ability to tell complex stories while never letting the player leave each game’s respective prisons does a great job at creating a sense of paranoia. This could translate into big sales for the physical exclusive, which means more money forSpike Chunsoft’s new publishing budget. Ideally, if the level of support is there, the collection could work as an indicator for the developer that more titles are a lucrative venture.

If Spike Chunsoft sees that fans still love and want more of theDanganronpaseries after the 11th anniversary, it would make sense that they would produce a new game in the series. As one of its most popular IPs to date, it would make sense that the developer is always considering bringing back the murderous teddy bear.

Even though Nintendo was one of the last showcases, it still brought plenty of surprises for fans. One of the more exciting was the announcement ofDanganronpa Decadence, which brings together thethree mainDanganronpagamesin a exclusive Switch bundle. It’s an addition to the Switch that will allow fans to take the murderous high-schoolers on the go, and will hopefully open the series up to a new audience. While it will be a great addition to the Nintendo Switch’s gallery, some fans are hoping that Spike Chunsoft still has more in store for the future of the series.

Danganronpa Decadencereleases later this year for Nintendo Switch.
