Kojima Productions revealsDeath Stranding 2in an incredible trailer that gives a cinematic view of what players can expect from the upcoming title. This reveal comes duringThe Game Awards ceremony, where the previous game in theDeathStrandingseries had previously won the award for Best Direction.
The trailer was quickly followed by a few words from developer Hideo Kojima, who in classic style didn’t give too much insight as to whatDeath Stranding 2would actually be about. However, the story will seemingly be less prophetic about the isolated society that would eventually spread from the game world of the originalDeath Strandingand into the real world a few months later.

In the trailer, fans are shown a short clip of Lea Seydoux’s Fragile cradling a toddler before the quiet moment immediately erupts into an action-packed chase across the isolated wasteland. After some strange images, such as some monstrous tentacles crawling around inside of BB’s old carrying case, Fragile is then joined byNorman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges. Interestingly, both characters appear vastly different inDeath Stranding 2than they did in the original, with Sam having long, gray hair and Fragile no longer being affected by her time out in the timefall.
After the initial trailer,Hideo Kojimaalso made a short appearance to talk about development ofDeath Stranding 2, specifically focusing on the writing process of the new story. According to Kojima, the story had already been started when the originalDeath Strandinglaunched, however the developer scrapped and rewrote the story after the isolation from the COVID outbreak following that game’s release. Aside from that slight insight, Kojima also encouraged fans to take a closer look at the newly released trailer to start piecing together what the next game in the series has in store.
Considering the story of the originalDeath Strandingas well as the vague and obscured lead up to its release, what little has been shown so far likely isn’t all there will be to see. Similarly, the announcement ofDeath Stranding 2doesn’t necessarily discount speculation from fans for therumored Project Overdosefrom Kojima Productions, as Kojima did claim that the developer is working on multiple projects right now. So far, this trailer will certainly give fans plenty to speculate on, from the return of Troy Baker’s Higgs to the reveals of new technologies that hadn’t appeared in the original title.
