It’s an exciting time to be aDestiny 2fan, as not only has Bungie just revealed the game’s next major expansion pack and released an all-new batch of seasonal content, but there’s a big chunk of fresh endgame-tier content coming out later this week, too. This means that Season of the Plunder has kicked off at a rather brisk pace, entertaining almost every player profile all at once.
Namely,Destiny 2is set to reprise King’s Fall, one of the originalDestiny’s best raids, which will launch this Friday, August 26. Featuring the legendary Taken King himself, Oryx, this raid tasks Guardians with mounting an assault on the Hive god’s inner sanctum and then turning his own captured Light against him in the final encounter.

Acting as a thematic follow-up toDestiny 2’s reprisal of Vault of Glassfrom last year, King’s Fall is going to continue Bungie’s relatively new intent to include many of the originalDestiny’s finest moments in the game’s sequel. King’s Fall will have its own dedicated Raid Race event, too, and everyone interested in competing for world’s first completion will have an opportunity to do so. While much of King’s Fall will remain just as players remember it fromDestiny, some elements are bound to be changed: Vault of Glass received a few mechanical changes and the vicious Vex Wyvern enemies were introduced to the roster.
Veterans of the game will know thatDestiny 2’s King’s Fall launching on Fridayisn’t usually how raid launches are set up. Whereas Bungie used to hold its Raid Race events on Saturday to make them as accessible to players as possible, this caused serious issues during the launch of Vow of the Disciple. On weekends, Bungie has fewer developers around, which means any potential connectivity problems are effectively exacerbated, and the Friday release schedule for King’s Fall means there will be more hands on deck should issues pop up.
Since Vault of Glass plays host toDestiny 2’s Timelost weapons, it’s fairly likely that King’s Fall will have its own set of special, pinnacle-level items attached to its own Master difficulty mode. These have, however, not been revealed yet in any meaningful capacity. In fact, even the basic weapons and armor are currently invisible in the game’s API, which makes it impossible for players to see what gear’s made the transition toDestiny 2alongside the raid.
ThoughDestiny 2: Season of Plunder has 3 activitiesfor players to partake in, none of them are endgame-tier by default. Instead, they’re supposed to provide a fun, satisfying romp for every player profile at the same time. King’s Fall is, however, sure to prove markedly difficult in general and will therefore attract a more hardcore audience — especially on Friday, during the Raid Race.
Destiny 2is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
