The games industry is no stranger to rumors, with the rumor mill constantly pumping out information about the most popular upcoming games at the time. While quite a few rumors have the potential to turn out true, most of them fall under the category of long-sighted fan speculation.
It seems that rumors surrounding Insomniac Games' upcomingSpider-Man 2are doing the rounds, claiming to know about the game’s story and characters, as well as giving out possible release dates. It’s more important than ever that fans stay cautious, as most of the current rumors don’t carry any weight and/or legitimacy.

Recent Leaks About Spider-Man 2
Reddit user by the name of throwawayquarantine8 recently claimed to know a lot about Insomniac’s upcomingSpider-Man 2. The leaker claimed to be in contact with an Insomniac Games employee, who supposedly shared information discussed on the matter in a Zoom call. The leaker suggested that the new game would be much bigger in scope, with the story revolving around Spider-Man’s encounters with Venom.
In addition to a multitude of other things, the leaker said thatthe game would feature Peter Parker and Miles Morales both as playable characters, with frequent shifts between the two perspectives. Last but not the least, the leaker claimed that the team is now targeting a Holiday 2021 release window. Such a possibility instantly sparked the interest of many fans, but there was little to no truth to the rumors at the time.
Ultimately, the leaker admitted that the post was a hoax and everything suggested in his post was fake. He further revealed that he was himself a bigSpider-Manfan as well as an aspiring writer, and this was an attempt to see whether his stories would prove interesting to the general public. Despite these efforts to justify the framed leak, many fans are upset about having their hopes shattered.
Spider-Man 2’s Release Is Quite A Ways Away
Contrary to what the rumors might suggest,Spider-Man 2is probably still in the very early stages of development. The team behind 2018’sSpider-Manand2020’sSpider-Man: Miles Moralesare obviously handling the development of the sequel, so it isn’t fair to think that the team might have much to show now. This is backed by Spider-Man’s voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, who has revealed that no voice work has been done for the sequel yet.
While it’s impossible topredict whenSpider-Man 2might come out, 2023 or beyond seems a safe enough bet for now. Insomniac Games has a lot on its plate for now, whether it’s theSunset Overdrivesequel rumored to be in the works, or the upcoming release ofRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Additionally,Spider-Man 2might take more development as it has a lot more to prove.
Ultimately, Sony already has a lot of key exclusives planned for the next couple of years — with titles likeGod of War: Ragnaroksequel,Horizon Forbidden West, andGran Turismo 7, along with any unannounced games coming in the near future. Fitting another well-established IP likeSpider-Manin between could ultimately hurt in the long run, and doesn’t make sense from a financial perspective too.
