Summary
A modder of the originalDoomgame has already added in the incredible Shield Saw from the recently revealedDoom: The Dark Agesgame. The classicDoommod landed less than 24 hours after the trailer premiered, impressing fans of the series.
While the entireDoomseries has a huge fanbase that’s actively intrigued byDoom: The Dark Agesshaking up the formula, the classic is still a powerhouse in its own way. Players are still modding and creating new campaigns for the classicDoomentry, despite it having come out in 1993.

Modder Craneo has unveiled theirShield Sawmod for classicDoom, and it’s impressive. It’s a great visual replication of the design that maintains the esthetic of the originalDoomgame, and is designed to be a swap for the chainsaw in the game. The Shield Saw is fully animated, with the saw actively running around the sides of the shield when not in use.
Craneo shared a demonstration of gameplay with the Shield Saw, showing off both its defense and attack capabilities. By raising it, the player is protected from all incoming damage, either from the front or the sides and back of the player. It can also be thrown, as shown in theDoom: The Dark Agestrailer, doing damage on impact. It’s also useable in close quarters, making it an extremely versatile weapon for Doomguy to use. Players accustomed to moddingDoomcan acquire the mod via Craneo’s social media account.

Doom Fans Still Appreciate Where the Series Started
Obviously,Doomhas come an incredibly long way since the series got its start. Visuals, gameplay, and internet connectivity have changed gaming dramatically since then. However,Doom 1is still considered by many to be a classic, including Bethesda, which has periodicallyissued updates to classicDoomfor modern systems. The modding community forDoom 1is also clearly alive and well.
However, part ofDoom’s charm at this point is its incredibly low system requirements. “Can it runDoom?” has become a meme question in the community this point, asDoomhas either been ported to or remade to work on just about every device possible, ranging from Apple Watches to pianos and birth control tests. While the series is looking to the future - and the past - right now, the classic that started it all is far from forgotten, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
