With the game being out for over a year now, some players are finding new and interesting attack combinations while others are searching for ways to counter these ranged attacks.
TheElden Stars incantation inElden Ringcan be one of the most infuriating casts to encounter when it is aimed in the direction of the player. The Elden Stars attack appears in the form of a large golden projectile that spews out other smaller projectiles as it moves towards the target. The small projectiles deal unceasing posture damage, and the golden projectile erupts on contact dealing large amounts of holy damage. Many players come across this move for the first time when facing the Elden Beast, but the legendary incantation can also be obtained for the character to use by finding it in the Lands Between. It requires a hefty amount of faith to cast but is ultimately worth it due to its tracking ability that follows the target until exploding, doing massive damage.

One player found a very useful counter to this extremely annoying spell in abattle inElden Ring’sColosseum. In a video posted to Reddit by KingOfEthanopia, the player can be seen in the video showing off their intelligent counter to the treacherous incantation. The player is engaging in a one-on-one battle in the Colosseum, and the enemy begins to cast the Elden Stars incantation when KingOfEthanopia instinctively swaps their equipped weapon to the Erdtree Greatshield. Using the weapon’s skill, Golden Retaliation, KingOfEthanopia was able to actively turn his defensive shield into an offensive powerhouse. The weapon skill can ignore frontal attacks from incantations and spells and then retaliates with a ranged attack of its own. This turned the tables of the battle in favor of KingOfEthanopia, ultimately making them victorious in the end.
The Erdtree Greatshield is a great resource for players who are more melee-focused and have trouble dealing with ranged attacks. The ability to absorb projectiles and return with an almost instant attack can often be the difference between life and death inElden Ring. This Greatshield is also extremely useful when facingMoonveil katana spammer’s inElden Ringas the weapon art can also be absorbed, triggering the Golden Retaliation of the shield.
Players looking to model their character in the image of the Tree Sentinel should pick up this Greatshield as well as the Golden Halberd. Both armaments require a high stat investment in faith and strength. The Golden Halberd can be obtained from the start of the game, but players will have to reach theAltus Plateau in order to obtain the Greatshield.
