The namesake city ofFallout: New Vegasis quite the marvel to behold and serves as the main questing hub in the middle and latter portions of the game. It’san iconic location filled with iconic charactersand setpieces, and it’s not as difficult as one might think to get to New Vegas inFallout: New Vegas.
The New Vegas location is actually smack dab in the central-north of the world map (the vanilla Mojave world map, that is). You can see it on your own world map from the start of the game. There are essentially two routes to reach New Vegas: one that’s direct from Goodsprings, but sacrifices most of the side quests and content leading there, while the other is the more intended route that the Courier is meant to take.
There is a relatively secret third option, too, which involves taking an NCR monorail directly to the Strip.
How To Get To New Vegas From Goodsprings
Truth Is, New Vegas Was Right There From The Start
The fastest way to get to New Vegas from the beginning of the game is to go, well, directly there. You will have to traverse through a valley filled to the brim with Radscorpions, and will likely run into a few Legion patrols or other ne’er-do-wells out in the Mojave, but most players should be able to make this initial leg of the journey just fine.
The hard part really begins after getting to the eastern entrance to New Vegas from Freeside.To get into the Strip and New Vegasproper, you need to be able to pay your Credit Check of 2,000 Caps or have a special passport. This early in the game, having 2,000 Caps available on short notice is a tall order, so you may have to find a way to get a pass instead, like by allying with the Kings.
As glitzy and glamorous asthe Strip is inFallout:New Vegas, there’s not much that a new player can do in this iconic location until they’ve explored other areas a bit more. But, if you are dead set on getting to New Vegas to see what all the hype is about, a direct journey northeast from Goodsprings will get you there.

Main Quest Progression & Unique Methods
Themain quest forFallout: New Vegassees players follow in the footsteps of the person who shot them in the head to enact revenge – or at least figure out what exactly went down, and why (and who you should side with). But at the start of the game, all you know is that the person who shot you headed south toward Primm.
From Primm, the player is guided toward Novac to the southeast, then toward Boulder City, which is pretty much directly east from New Vegas itself. As the Courier unravels the clues and follows the trail left by their attacker, they will naturally end up at the gates to New Vegas within Freeside.
This “long way” takes the player throughmost of the major settlementsin the base game version of the Mojave, and organically introduces them to New Vegas at a level range that feels more appropriate. But there is another fast alternative route to get to New Vegas: the monorail.
If you are able to get a suit of NCR armor and blend in as one of them, and get to Camp McCarren to the south of New Vegas, there is a monorail that leads directly to the city. You must be in NCR armor and must go to Camp McCarren, as the monorail doesn’t make other stops.
Head deep into the camp while blended in to take this ultra-fast route to the Strip, but be warned: you must either kill an NCR trooper yourself or bait one into getting killed to get their uniform.
