According to Insider Gaming’s report, the Ubisoft Montreal-developedFar Cry 7will launch in fall 2025 and be utilizing the Snowdrop engine used inThe Divisiongames and the upcomingAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora.Frontiers of Pandorahas actuallydrawn comparisons toFar Cry, so it’s not a stretch to think that the upcomingFar Cry 7will be built using that engine. The Insider Gaming report has also revealed what fans can expect fromFar Cry 7in terms of story and gameplay.
Apparently,Far Cry 7will feature an in-game timer of 72 hours, with players having to rescue their kidnapped family members from a villainous group called the Sons of Truth within that time. Players can reportedly rescue their family members in any order, though they can also be killed, which will supposedly change the course of the story. The other main goal will be to wipe out the Sons of Truth. Players will also be able to utilize a “new interrogation mechanic” to gather helpful intel.
It wasn’t mentioned in the report, so this is purely speculation at this time, but based on theFar Cryfranchise’s history with iconic villains, one has to imagine that at least some members of the Sons of Truth could be played by Hollywood talent.Far Cry 3famously featured Michael Mando as Vaas, whileFar Cry 6enlisted the talents of Giancarlo Espositoand Anthony Gonzalez. OtherFar Crygames have instead relied on traditional video game actors, so it’s really anyone’s guess what directionFar Cry 7might take.
