Patch 5.0 brought a ton of new content toFinal Fantasy XIV. While exploring the new map, players will need to complete “The City of Ancients” quest. This is not to be confused with the location of the same name fromFinal Fantasy VII. Gamers can pick up the quest from anNPC named Y’shtolain the parallel dimension termed the First.

When the patch was released, thousands of players spent half an hour or longer trying to complete the three main objectives in the quest. Y’shtola can be a bit vague if players are unsure where to find all the objectives. However, gamers will know exactly where to look after reading this guide.
Speak With Y’shtola
Players will find Y’shtola at (33, 16.9) on the apocalyptic First. Gamers will need to speak with her later in theShadowbringers main storyline. It is a level 79 mission that will be unlocked after completing the “Waiting in the Depths” quest. Unfortunately, the City of Ancients quest is one of the dreaded survey and locate filler missions in almost every RPG. Gamers will want to use the coordinates in this guide to get past this tedious mission.
Meet Y’shtola Near The Survey Point
Y’shtola will first task gamers with inspecting the Ondo Cups from the survey point. This is one of the three “find a location and return” tasks in the quest. In Shadowbringers, themain missionis to complete quests that revitalize the dead landscape in the alternate dimension.

After speaking with Y’shtola, players should get on their mount and head to the north. After following the corridor to the north, players will want to ride northwest where they will need to chat with Y’shtola again. She will be at (29.5, 12.7) next to a large rock. Finally, players can begin the survey objectives.
Inspect The Buildings Surrounding The Ondo Settlement
Y’shtola’s first task is to inspect the buildings near Ondo. The survey point will be right behind players and it is marked by a sparkling indicator. While inspecting, players will need to use the camera to identify the building’s most distinctive feature. The building feature is a “distinctive window” halfway up the structure. Players can start at the bottom of the building and slowly trace the camera up to complete the objective. It looks more like a large door than a window, but gamers will be done with the first objective nonetheless.
Collect Scrapings From The Remnant Wall
Gamers will need to have the Mythril Knife in their inventory to complete the second objective. Players will want to ride to (27.9, 11.9) and interact with the remnant wall. The area players need to inspect will be glowing, and there will likely be a few other players crowding around it as well. If gamers cast their Mythril Knife while looking at the wall, they will be able to move on to the next step in the quest.
Mural In The Qitana Ravel
Players will need to return to Y’shtola, who will give them a copy of the Mural in the Qitana Ravel. For some reason, Y’shtola thinks gamers can find the structure by looking at a crayon drawing. Instead of aimlessly wandering the landscape, players should travel to the survey point at (21.9, 10.9). After inspecting the survey point, players will enter a cut scene comparing the old structure to the mural. It honestly looks nothing like the chicken scratch painting from Y’shtola. Thankfully, gamers will not have to search for the buried rock structure.

Spontaneously, Y’shtola shows up to admire the structure, which begs the question of why she asked players to find it in the first place. The entire scene is quite hilarious, but it is only one of a few mistakes Square Enix made in the 5.0 patch. Either way, after a long cut scene, Y’shtola will thank players for their help, and “the Light of Inspiration” quest will be initiated.
Rewards And Summary
Gamers will be rewarded with 820,000 experience and receive 968 Gil for their efforts. For such an easy quest, these are very good rewards. Below is a summary of all the objectives as a reference guide when completing the quest.
In total, the quest can be completed in just a few minutes if players follow the steps outlined above. Players should remember to look for the glowing indicators in each step of the quest. There will almost always be a few players completing the quest, so gamers are likely in the right spot if other players are in the area.
