If Epic Games' battle royaleFortniteis known for anything, it’s the insane level of customization players are capable of thanks to a myriad of emotes and alternate skins for their characters and gear — some of which evencross-promote films like DC’sBirds of Prey. However, Reddit user THIP123 posited an alternate approach the gaming juggernaut could take to opening customization further by adding in a full-fledged character creation system.

In a post uploaded to the r/FortNiteBR subreddit earlier today, THIP123 shows off the concept for theirFortnitecharacter creator in a minute-and-a-half long video. All-and-all it doesn’t look too different from the kinds of creation systems featured in other games, going from gender selection to six options for altering skin tone, hair, and different outfit pieces.

THIP123’s concept stands out because it offers a huge variety of choices for each customization option in style and color, but also leaves room for players to import entirely new outfits. That way fans of the battle royale can make their own characters and Epic Games can still addspecial skins for events like the Super Bowl.

The concept post has received lots of love since being uploaded, but Reddit users like Volstx have commented that the idea could never really work because of the lost revenue in skin sales should players be able to create their own. One solution offered in the resulting discussion said that custom skins could cost a certain amount of V-Bucks,Fortnite’s in-game currency, or that there could still be non-customizable special purchases like thestreamer Pokimane-themed emote.

In its few years on top of the gaming scene,Fortnitehas been known to keep itself relevant by shaking things up through mechanics as well as customization options. For instance, the game added aSearch and Destroy mode for its Valentine’s Day eventthis year.

Implementing some form of character creation, be it reminiscent of THIP123’s concept or not, might be an interesting way for the battle royale to keep up its trend of appealing to a diverse fanbase with a wide array of options. That might not stopFortnitefrom being bannedin places like Kentucky High School, but it would give players more ways to express themselves.
