Genshin Impactplayers have been getting a bunch of news about updates lately, and they can look forward to a pretty big new expansion at the end of this year. Although players already have a sizable open world to play in, a DecemberGenshin Impactupdatewill bring a map expansion so players have even more space to explore and fight.

AlthoughGenshin Impacthas been out for only a couple of weeks, it’s already proven to be very popular as players explore, collect items, and fight in the world of Treyvat. Its open world has been compared toThe Legend of Zelda:Breath of the Wildin terms of expansiveness and sheer breadth of how much there is for players to do. Although it’s unlikely that most players have thoroughly explored every corner of the existing map yet, there are sure to be people pushing at the edges of explored territory soon and a new map will be much wanted.

The dev company, miHoYo, has already provided aroadmap forGenshin Impactupdates, and has detailed what players can see in the next three updates. The first update will come in mid-November, while the second update will come on December 23, just before the winter holidays in many parts of the world, and includes the map expansion. The map will detail a region of Treyvat that players haven’t gotten to play in yet, called Dragonspine.

Like the new Elemental Crucible event, Dragonspine will be revealed in an in-game event that encourages players to explore the new region. ThisnewGenshin Impactregionis marked on the in-game map but is completely blacked out, so players have no way of getting a sneak peek just yet.

It remains to be seen whether there will be a lot of new regions revealed later, and if theGenshin Impactmap will keep expanding outward. Right now, seeing as Dragonspine was already coded into the game, it looks like the devs will work mostly with existing material and encourage players to exploreGenshin Impact’s huge open world. As the game is out for longer, it’s likely that more events and items will flesh out regions players can already visit, so the map doesn’t get too unwieldy.

Although the game has been well-received by many players and is getting a lot of positive buzz, there are still several importantissues to be addressed inGenshin Impact. Hopefully the devs don’t get so swamped with making and releasing new content that they don’t address problems players are having in the game as it is.

Genshin Impactis available now on mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
