Ghost Recon Breakpointfinally gives players some much needed assistance in the form of AI teammates. Coming in a free update on July 15, solo players will finally be able to experience theWildlandssequel the same way that they played the first one. There are some interesting features that come with this teammate addition, but the overall changeshould be welcome news for disgruntledGhost Reconfans.

SinceBreakpointwas first announced, the excitement for a sequel to the much-lovedGhost ReconWildlandsreached incredible heights. The combination of an open world, the freedom to take on missions in almost any order, dozens of weapons and attachments, and the ability to customize the player’s teammates made for a gaming hit that fans sunk dozens and dozens of hours into. The anticipation was fueled even more so when it was revealed that Jon Bernthal—ofPunisherandThe Walking Deadfame—was the main villain of the game.

Unfortunately, the sequel did not quite live up to expectations. The release was filled with buggy gameplay, sound issues, and glitches galore. However, the most talked about issue fans had withBreakpointwas the emphasis on multiplayer. Whereas someone could take on all ofWildlandsby themselves—with the aid of three AI teammates—Breakpointlocked off parts of the map for solo players and only had teammates in the form of multiplayer. This became a huge issue for many people who played offline, didn’t have any friends who playedGhost Recon Breakpoint, or who just wanted to experience the world by themselves.

With all of the recent video game news from Ubisoft comes the addition of teammates that can be toggled on and off, for those players who grew accustomed to the truly solo gameplay. These teammates can revive the player, assist in sync-kills, and come with many customization options for weapons and appearance. Ubisoft also promisesthe release of an event called Resistance, where the player must assist Outcasts in a counterattack on Sentinels, saving people and destroying outposts along the way. This limited-time event will run from July 16 to July 29.

Hopefully, this update can breathe life back into what was a highly anticipated game, full of fun and new mechanicsthat built upon what came before it. The fear is that all of the game’s issues were too extensive for too long of a time. The next several weeks will be an indicator to Ubisoft ifGhost Recon Breakpointis salvageable or if it truly was a breaking point.

Ghost Recon Breakpointis available now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
