Take-Two, the parent company ofGrand Theft Autodeveloper and publisher Rockstar Games, is producing some of the most popular games in the world.Grand Theft Auto 5alone has sold 150 million copies worldwide, with plans to releaseGrand Theft Auto 5: Expanded and Enhancedand a standaloneGrand Theft Auto Onlinein the relatively near future. In addition to those two newGTAreleases,Take-Tworecently confirmed in an earnings report that it has three other unannounced “iterative” products in development.
As part of its report, Take-Two included a section titled “Pipeline Details” breaking down its upcoming game releases. For example, it has four “Immersive Core” titles releasing in the Fiscal Year 2022, includingNBA 2K22,WWE 2K22,Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and an unannounced game from 2K. It also lists six “New Iterations of Previously Released Titles,” with three of them being the two previously mentionedGTAproducts andKerbal Space Programfor next-gen. That leaves three unannounced games.

Unlike with “Immersive Core” projects, however, Take-Two doesn’t note which of its subsidiaries are working on the three unannounced new rereleases. That means that these projects could be anything, from any of its five publishing ortwenty-four studio subsidiaries. And while the other projects in this category imply it’s only for games being released on new platforms or in different packages, it’s likely also intended for remakes and remasters, too.
The immediate fan reaction to this news is easy to predict. Rockstar Games is incredibly popular and fans would love to see any number of its past releases get re-released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, or remastered/remade for a new generation of players. Rumors and speculation are already thick within the Rockstar fandom and have been there for a very long time.Red Dead RedemptionandBullyremakes are constantly discussed, as well as classicGrand Theft Autoreleases.
Rockstar isn’t the only Take-Two subsidiary that could see some upcoming game re-releases, however. 2K could put together any number ofBioShock,Borderlands,Civilization, orXCOMbundles. Take-Two’s indie publisher Private Division could also put together an edition ofThe Outer Worldscollecting the game and its DLC.
Needless to say, there are a lot of exciting possibilities stemming from Take-Two’s confirmation of three upcoming “iterative” releases. And it’s worth repeating that these titles are planned for FY 2022, which should end March 2022. Expect to hear some announcements fromTake-Two’s subsidiaries in the relatively near future, but it’s probably healthy to not expect any majorGrand Theft Autorereleasesor the like.
