The reveal of the Xbox Series S in addition to the Xbox Series X has some people wondering which one to buy. It seems like both will be equally good choices forHalofans, though onlyXbox Series S has a confirmedHaloeaster egg. For those sticking solely with PC over either console but still hoping for moreHalo, there is also good news.
News ofHalo Infinitehas been somewhat sparse since its gameplay reveal, but it still carries a good deal of hype. This is not surprisng, sinceHalohas beenthemajor Xbox seller since the first Xbox. The originalHalotrilogy and games that immediately followed it are still regarded as some of the best first person shooters ever made. So it should please fans of the series that another game in the series is being added toHalo: The Master Chief Collection.

Halo: The Master Chief Collectionis a collection of some of the bestHalotitles in a single game. It was made available for the Xbox One in 2015 and then, several years later, for the PC… in pieces. Games have been added slowly to theCollection, and this is still ongoing (the final total will be 6 games). Recently,Halo 3: ODSTbeta testing began on PC and Xbox One, leading to the obvious conclusion that it would be releasing on those systems soon. This is indeed the case, asHalo 3: ODSThas now been confirmed as becoming part of theMaster Chief Collection. This marks the penultimate game to be added.
For those unsurewhether or notHalo Infinite’s delay will result in improvements,Halo 3:ODSTmakes a good, safe choice. The game was originally envisioned as a tide-over release betweenHalo 3andHalo: Reach. Its scope broadened, and it became a good game in its own right. While players at the time questioned whether the rather sparse story and new mode (Firefight) were worth a full $60, this is less of an issue now. TheMaster Chief Collectionis currently available on Steam for $40, andODSTmakes a perfect, fairly small addition to an already great collection.
Not only is theMaster Chief Collectionone of thebest ratedHalogamesout there, so are the games that make up the collection. It’s undoubtedly a steal, especially now withODSTbeing added.Halofans who are PC owners could certainly do worse.
On the other side of the coin, the future ofHalo Infiniteis still uncertain. With rumors of delay, gameplay that failed to wow crowds, and the previousshift inInfinite’s leadership, the future ofHalois a shaky question mark. Fortunately, it’s past is still rock solid.
Halo: The Master Chief Collectionis available for PC and Xbox One.
