Halo Infinite’s launch has been storied, if nothing else. Debuting to acclaim for its surprise launch and refined gameplay, it saw a rise to the top of Steam’s concurrent player charts for a decent chunk of weeks. However, issues with the progression system fueled a wave of criticism, andHalo Infiniteseems to be losing some momentum. Luckily, a new mid-season update is on the way, and it just may have enough oomph to pull some players back in.

The new update provides a range of fixes for both the singleplayer andmultiplayer components ofHalo Infinite.Clocking in at 1.3 GB, the new improvements come from Halo Insider feedback and support tickets that have been submitted by the community. First-person animations got some updates to make them look smoother at all framerates, a persistent complaint among the fan base. Audio mixing is also getting some love, with the patch notes specifically citing improvements to sound effects.

One of the biggest Xbox-centric improvements is available forXbox Series X’s Quick Resume feature, withHalo Infinitenow featuring a more reliable reconnection process after suspendingHalo Infinite. That, too, has been a persistent issue withHalo Infinite, andHalo: The Master Chief Collectionhas faced similar issues since it launched. Previously, players would sometimes have to exitHalo Infinitecompletely to rejoin, which was frustrating.

Finally, there were a few general fixes toHalo Infinite’scampaign mode, such as audio logs playing the correct audio after completing the final campaign mission. The changes aren’t exactly sweeping, but the do provide a healthy number of quality of life improvements to justify seeing what’s changed. Plus, there’s always the promise of new content on the horizon.

And that new content might be debuting in a major way soon. A new leak has indicated thatHalo Infinitehas 10 maps on the way. While those certainly wouldn’t all drop at once, a combination of new maps and broader changes toHalo Infinite’s lackluster progression system could mark a big turning point forHalo Infinite. That’s not to say that it’s currently doomed, but there has been a pretty noticeable fall off.
