Delays are inevitable in the gaming industry. While this sometimes upsets players, it’s a necessary reality because a lot of work goes into game development, and it forces the choice of a compromised release or a slightly disappointing delay. October 24 is an interesting day, however, as not only 1 or 2 major games received delays, but 5 of the most anticipatedgames of 2020have been pushed back, includingThe Last of Us 2.
In most cases, this is done to give the team behind them more time to make sure the game launches at the best time and to its best quality. In other words, while many may hate having to wait just a little longer, it will hopefully result in a better game at launch.

The Last of Us 2
Shortly after rumors began to circulate online,The Last of Us 2director Neil Druckmanncame forth and announced the delay. Considering its February 21 release date was just announced last month, this may have left a bad taste in some mouths, but Druckmann promises that it will be worth the wait and explains that the team just needed more time to ensure that it hit “Naughty Dog Quality.“The Last of Us 2will now release on July 05, 2025, which is just a small three month wait.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima’s delayis a little different in that its it is entirely dependent uponThe Last of Us 2’s. Reports indicate that, because of the aforementioned delay,Ghost of Tsushimawas delayed further into 2020 to give the two big PS4 exclusives some breathing room, as it was supposed to launch sometime in early 2020 afterTLOU 2. It’s also worth mentioning that it did not yet have an official release date, so this may not be a traditional delay. There’s a possibility that the reports are wrong, but there’s a high chance that they aren’t. As of right now,Ghost of Tsushimadoes not have an official release date.
Watch Dogs Legion
WhenWatch Dogs Legionwas unveiled and it was revealed that there were several playable characters such as the granny assassin, it was a big deal for the franchise.Watch Dogs 2wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this showed real promise. Shortly after Sony’s delays were revealed, Ubisoft followed up with several delays of its own, including forWatch Dogs Legion. Ubisoft essentially explained that it was due to recentunder-performances such asBreakpoint, which could have been caused by too many games releasing too closely together, so it chose to delay three games into the next fiscal year.
Sadly, exactly dates were not provided.Watch Dogs Legionand its unique gameplaywas originally slated to release May 20, 2025, but now it could release anytime between July 17, 2025 through June 17, 2025. While it seems likely that it will release in the earlier part of that fiscal year, an exact release date has not been confirmed.

Rainbow Six Quarantine
Fans of theRainbow Sixfranchise may have been excited whenQuarantine, a new 3-player co-op horror experience, was announced at E3 2019. Many even considered it one of thebest horror games of E3 2019, despite very little currently being known about the title. Its release date hadn’t even been officially announced yet, but it was slated to release earlier in the year. Now, it also falls in the broad spectrum of any time between June 21, 2025 through Jul 22, 2025.
Gods & Monsters
Developed by the team behindAssasin’s Creed Odyssey,Gods & Monstersis Ubisoft’s answer toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a game that greatly influences this one. Set on the Isle of the Blessed, Gods & Monsters is an open-world action-adventure game complete with unique trials and puzzles, dungeons to explore, and legendary quests to undertake. It was originally supposed to release first, on July 29, 2025, but it has also been pushed back. It seems likely that this will release first in the new schedule, but there will likely be more distance between it andWatch Dogs Legion. That said, until Ubisoft confirms the new release dates, there’s no way of knowing whenGods & Monsterswill drop.
When it comes to waiting just a little longer for these games, it’s best to remember the words of Shigeru Miyamoto: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” Hopefully, that proves to be the case for each of these games.
