This morning,Grand Theft Autofans were likely excited after opening Twitter.GTA 6has been trending today, with over 12,000 tweets as of this writing. However, many of those tweets on the trending topic are an array of disappointed memes. Unfortunately for fans waiting to hear news ofGrand Theft Auto 6, the topic was trending due to the reactions about a rumoredupdate forGrand Theft Auto 5.

Based on a cryptic Rockstar tweet, a Gorillaz music video, and an earnings call with Take-Two Interactive, some have concluded thatGrand Theft Autohas been teasing a massive update for the end of the year that will feature a map expansion. This news produced mixed reactions from fans, with many sharing their disappointment on Twitter. Even candy bar brand Snickers chimed in, calling the news “not satisfying.” Some fans believe that Rockstar should stop supportingGTA 5and focus on the next installment in the series.

Fans on Twitter have flooded the trendingGTA 6topic with disappointment for the update, citingGTA 5’s release date as a reason to move on.Grand Theft Auto 5came out over seven years ago, and has received tons of updates that add content. However, thelack of news regardingGTA 6is driving some fans crazy, based on the topic trending.

Fans may be upset with the lack ofGTA 6news, but if the rumoredGTA 5update is the “biggest update ever” as some are claiming, the amount of content and potential new locations will surely get some fans excited. There has been substantial evidence thatGrand Theft Auto 5will expand its map. In a music video that has since been removed,popular British band the Gorillazdrive around the city of Los Santos inGTA 5, and at the end an island location can be seen in the background.

During an earnings call with Rockstar’s parent companyTake-Two Interactive, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors that they are expecting the biggest quarter ever forGTA Online. He said, “BothGrand Theft Auto OnlineandRed Dead Onlinewill receive major updates later this fiscal year, featuring an extension to existing Frontier Pursuits forRed Dead Online, as well asGrand Theft Auto Online’s biggest update ever, featuring a new take onHeistsin a new location.”

As for now, it seems like Rockstar will continue their support forGTA Online, with no news aboutGTA 6coming just yet. Anext-genGTA 5is in development, however the current version of the game does not benefit from next-gen capabilities using backwards compatibility.

Grand Theft Auto 6has yet to be announced, but is rumored to be in development.
