For all the early praiseHouse of the Dragonhas received from fans and critics, the series’ constant time jumps forced them to bid farewell to some of its actors, despite the gripping performances they put in, and it looks like there’s at least another recast event coming soon.
This past week’s 10-yearHouse of the Dragonflash-forward saw Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke step into the roles of Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Alicent, respectively. As the teen versions played by Milly Alcock and Emily Carey moved aside, the cast changes also affected House Velaryon.

Although the full list of actors who made up theHouse of the Dragoncast had been announced from the start, a fan account named House of the Dragon Source (@HOTDsource) has allegedly confirmed that episode 8 will feature the final time jump before the show settles down with an established cast. Alicent’s children will be played by Tom Glynn-Carney and Phia Saban. Furthermore, Harry Collett and Elliot Grihault would replaceRhaenyra and Harwin Strong’s bastard childrenmoving forward in theHouse of the Dragonstory.
The tweet also hints at something many fans knew already, thatHouse of the Dragonis a planned multi-seasonaffair for HBO. As many as 3 to 4 seasons are already getting the green light, according to the same sources. In any case, fans who took to the younger stars featured in the first five episodes may still harvest some hope in knowing Alcock and Carey could return in flashbacks ifHouse of the Dragonwere to use them at some point to elaborate on certain plot points.
Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception,House of the Dragon’s time jumpsis an issue for some of the franchise’s most die-hard fans, who feel certain characters could have benefited from more exposition and intricate development like theirGame of Thronescounterparts. IfHouse of the Dragonis meant to stay on for several years, this would only strengthen that argument, as the need to rush towards the all-out war between the two Targaryen factions seems even stranger.
MostGame of Thronesfans still hold a grudge due to the show’s anti-climatic ending, especially in its final season. However,House of the Dragonis provingto be the kind of worthy successor HBO wanted as it finishes working on its other blockbuster productionThe Last of Us.
House of the Dragonairs on Sunday at 9:00 pm EST on HBO and HBO Max.
