While some content has of course been recycled, 2023’s Halloween Terror has built upon its winning formula to create a great range of experiences for players. Overwatch 2: Halloween Terror Has Set A New Bar
Overwatch 2’s Halloween Terror event is set to run until November 1, meaning that fans still have plenty of time to see what all the hype is about. This year’sHalloween Terror has released alongside Season 7 ofOverwatch 2, which itself is called Rise of Darkness, with both events possessing the same spooky themes and content.
Halloween Terror comes with the return of Junkenstein’s Revenge, a popular mode from previous years that sees players face off against imposing waves of demonic robots and bosses in a defense-style mode. As well as this, Wrath of the Bride has also returned, being a detailed co-op mission where players navigate a twisted version of Eichenwalde while completing objectives. Wrath of the Bride was first introduced last year, with Junkenstein’s Revenge having been around for much longer, but Trials of Sanctuary is a brand-new addition that really sets Halloween Terror off.
Trials of Sanctuary is a crossover eventwith the Blizzard-ownedDiablofranchise, playing as a kind of looter-shooter experience. This mode sees iconicOverwatch 2heroes take the form ofDiablocharacters like Lilith, with the demonic themes of the IP working perfectly for a Halloween event. In Trials of Sanctuary, players can find power-ups that grant new abilities or boost pre-existing ones, adding an addictive level of replayability to the mode.
Ultimately, these modes work together to grant players a great mix of defensive and attacking PvE experiences with different core features. This is a huge departure from otherOverwatch 2events, with last year’sWinter Wonderland event getting a lot of stickin particular. Winter Wonderland did very little to innovate on its previous iterations, with small-scale PvP modes like Yeti Hunt and Freezethaw Elimination quickly boring a lot of players shortly after re-releasing.
As it stands, Halloween Terror dominates most otherOverwatchin-game events due to the variety of its game modes and the larger scale of their experiences. Of course,Halloween Terror also comes with a wide range of sinister cosmeticsthat are highly sought after, which have an impact that is difficult to replicate with other seasonal events like Winter Wonderland. With the modes of Halloween Terror following their own lore and giving different personas to manyOverwatchheroes, it is clear to see why the event stands a cut above its counterparts. The three engaging game modes directly tied to Halloween Terror have produced a level of content thatOverwatch 2has never seen before in its seasonal events, setting a high standard for any future plans Blizzard has.
