Summary

Intel is reportedly working on a new entry-level dual-core CPU that does not follow the company’s typical nomenclature for processors. It is said to be called “Intel 300” and is expected to release in the third quarter of this year. It will be part of the 14th Gen CPU lineup, but since it is a budget entry-level offering, it only has 2 cores and 4 threads, a bit surprising for a 2023 CPU. The Intel 300 CPU is said to be the successor to the Intel Pentium Gold G7400 which was launched early last year.

Typically, Intel keeps its entry-level CPUs in the Pentium or Celeron categories including chips like the Pentium Gold G7400 and the Intel Celeron 7305L. The Pentium Gold G7400 features a dual-core design with 2 performance cores (no efficiency cores) and 4 threads while the Celeron 7305L features a total of 5 cores – 1 performance core and 4 efficiency cores. The Celeron chip, as well as the Pentium Gold G7400, were part of the 12th Gen lineup of CPUs and did not receive a refresh or follow-up with the 13th generation.

Now,according to a new leak from tipster chi11eddogon Twitter, “Intel 300” is going to be the new naming convention for the CPU that is said to be the successor to the Pentium Gold G7400. The 14th Gen CPU will feature 2 performance cores, no efficiency cores, and 4 threads. It will come with 6MB of L3 cache and 46W power consumption, which is most likely the base processor power. Interestingly, the base core clock has gone up by 200MHz and the new Intel 300 CPU is said to be clocked at 3.9GHz.

Intel Core i7-12700KF 12-Core, 20-Thread CPU

Intel first introduced its P-core and E-core design with the 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs back in January last year. The Pentium Gold G7400 was launched in the first quarter of 2022. With the 13th Gen, the company skipped refreshing this CPU but is now going with a different approach, yet keeping the core count low, just like the previous generation. The P-core and E-core design brought decent performance improvements over the previous generation, especially when it came to the moregaming-oriented CPUsin the lineup.

As for the release date, the tipster mentioned that Intel will unveil the new CPU in this quarter which means before September ends. Notably, the company isexpected to unveil its Raptor Lake Refresh lineupof CPUs in October, so it could be that the Intel 300 CPUs are announced alongside the more mainstream chips. It should also be noted that the company has not shared any official information about the new CPU or its release.

Intel Core i5-13600K

Speaking of the Raptor Lake Refresh, the upcoming series of CPUs will not be a generational jump over the 13th Gen lineup. They will offer aminor performance boostover Intel’s current offerings for both the ‘K’ and ‘non-K’ SKUs. The current lineup of CPUs from Intel are some of thebest in terms of performancein 2023 but the 12th-generation, which is often discounted, is better value than the 13th-generation alternatives.
