Summary
One character that has endured a painful and tragic story thus far in theMCUhas to be The Vision. Right alongside his love Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, the Vision has fought alongside the Avengers against Ultron, witnessed the heroes torn apart byCivil War, and lost his life to the machinations of Thanos. Yet withWandavision’ssurprise ending, the White Vision disappeared into the world, searching for his identity once more. With the news that The Vision is set to get its own Disney+ series, the question remains: whatVision storyline will the MCUadapt for this series?
The Vision’s story in Wandavisiondiffers from his Marvel Comics counterpart, and is often tied intrinsically with the Avengers, but there are a few stories that he can call his own. So far, theMCUhas seen his marriage to Wanda and their shared family with two sons come to life onWandavision, only to see that family disappear after all. Yet that wasn’t the only family he had in Marvel Comics. There would come a time when he would develop his own android family, including a daughter who would become part of the Young Avengers/Champions, Viv Vision. She was first introduced in the acclaimed seriesThe Visions. Is theMCUset to adaptThe Visionsinto a series?

The Vision’s MCU Journey Thus Far
Paul Bettany, originally the voice of Tony Stark’s A.I. Jarvis, officially joined theMCUas The Vision inAvengers: Age of Ultron. Originally meant to be the final body of Ultron, the vibranium-built body was instead the housing place of Jarvi’s A.I., becoming the heroic Vision, who could immediately liftMad Max: Furiosa star Chris Hemsworth’sThor hammer Mjölnir. Helping the Avengers destroy Ultron, he would become a powerhouse within the heroic team.
AfterCivil Warsaw the team torn in two, including his beloved Wanda on the run from the authorities, his love for her led him to meet with her in secret, until they were attacked byMCU powerhouse villain Thanos’sforces, The Black Order. What gave him his sentience was the Mind Stone, one of the infamous Infinity Stones. Thanos eventually took the stone from Vision’s head, killing the hero tragically in front of Wanda.

In the aftermath ofAvengers: Endgame, Wanda’s grief over the Vision’s loss led to her breakdown, incidentally transforming a small town into a place where the Vision could still live, at least the part that still lived within her. After much conflict, the series sawWanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, come to terms with her loss, having to say goodbye to Vision and their children together. Yet before that, the U.S. Military had launched White Vision, created from the original Vision’s body without his consciousness. Wanda’s Vision gave White Vision his memories and consciousness, with White Vision disappearing from the military’s radar in his confusion.
The Visions, Explained
Much of White Vision’s time in the comics rested in his joining the West Coast Avengers, losing his relationship with Wanda due to his emotionless state, joining the original Avengers(otherwise called the East Coast Avengers), and adapting a human identity named Victor Shade to attempt to regain his humanity once more. He would get his original red body when his mind was switched to the Anti-Vision, an evil counterpart from a parallel Earth, but it would take time for him to regain his emotional state. After several major storylines, such asHeroes Reborn,Disassembled/Reassembled, andAvengers A.I., eventually The Vision seeks to form some semblance of a family and a normal life, hoping to find a place for himself in the world outside of heroism. Thus, the Visions were born.
Alongside his wife Virginia, his son Vin, and his daughter Viv, the synthezoid Visions took up residence in Fairax, VA, using Wanda’s brain patterns to create his wife and a mixture of her and his own brainwaves for the children. They attempt to socialize, but find it difficult due to their robotic nature. The villain, Grim Reaper, eventually finds their home and attacks, but in self-defense, Virginia slays the villain.Agatha Harkness, set to starin her own upcoming Disney+ series, then warns the Avengers that Vision’s desire for normalcy will lead to genocide to protect his newfound family, sending them in teen hero Victor Mancha to look into Vision’s family. This leads Vision’s son Vin to break down when he discovers Victor’s intentions, and in revenge, Virginia destroys Victor. She confesses to the crimes and alters Vision’s operating system while she does what she does to protect her family. The story ends in tragedy, as she dies in Vision’s arms, leaving him and VIv alone.

Is The Visions the Next Step in Vision’s MCU Journey?
Tragedy and identity seem to go hand in hand with Paul Bettany’s Vision. The desire to discover his sense of self may lead White Vision to a similar path, with a synthezoid family being the next stage in finding his place in the world and introducing key figures like Victor Mancha, one of the infamous teen heroes from The Runaways, and his daughter Viv Vision, one of the prominent teen heroes on Ms. Marvel’s Champions team, may be the perfect time to introduce this heroic team. With the MCU leavingThe Marvel’s hero Ms. Marvelrecruiting young heroes, Viv Vision would be a perfect new addition to the MCU. Plus, with Agatha’s involvement inThe Visionsminiseries and her upcoming seriesAgatha All Along, theMCUmay have a plan for The Vision to adapt this storyline and see his evolution beyond his connection to Wanda, especially in the wake of her unknown status in theMCUfollowingDoctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The Visionscould be the gateway to new heroes and new corners of theMCUoverall.
