It appears those who are worried thatAvatar 2will be delayed even further than it already has can put said worries to bed once and for all. When the person who sits at the very top confirms that the film will meet its premiere date, that’s when you know delays will no longer be a factor.
This is welcome news to those who have been eagerly awaiting the sequel toAvatar, since not only has this film been delayed for a while now, but it’s been over a decade since the first movie’s release. Still, President of 20th Century Studios Scott Asbell assures fans that the wait will be worthwhile.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell was asked point-blankifAvatar 2will meet its release date. Without mincing words, Asbell confirmed in layman’s terms that not only will it meet its release date, but that when it’s released, the film will be more than worth the wait. “It’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim is doing,” Asbell said. “This is not just a sequel, it’s a saga. And it’s a family saga. It will be compelling on its own, but it will also be extremely compelling to return to those characters and to see how they’ve evolved. It’s less aboutAvatarbeing a really big movie and more about howAvatarwas a really important cultural moment for audiences.”
The fact that Asbell stresses that the extensive wait will be well worth it should only excite fans more knowing how revolutionary the special effects were inthe firstAvatarfilm. If the next one also provides scenery moviegoers haven’t seen before, there’s no telling how spectacular of a watchAvatar 2will be. More importantly, the fact that this film should no longer experience any more delays should make moviegoers, in general, feel optimistic about other future movie release dates.
Time and time again, highly-anticipated movies were gettingdelayed because of COVID-19to the point where delays were expected, and even worse, they felt like they would never end. Now that COVID-19 numbers are finally dying down, we should in due time no longer have to expect movie releases to be put off once we return to normalcy.
That will serve well fortheAvatarfranchise as a wholesince more installments have already been greenlit to be released throughout the 2020s. It’ll be interesting to see what directionAvatargoes in, and that intrigue doesn’t come from how long it’s been since the last movie was released. The movie blew everyone’s mind with its CGI when it was first released in 2009. If all of what Asbell says is true, then the movie’s sequel will probably not only have the same aim to do that all again, but it will also add to its intriguing storyline.
Avatar 2is scheduled to be released in theaters on Jul 28, 2025.
