“The discovery and the surprise of it is part of the fun,” stated Peele during a brief Q&A session at the convention. “Trailers will give you a taste, but we want to retain some of the mystery, so you can be satisfied going to the damn movie.” Peele presentedan extendedNopetrailerfor the CinemaCon audience, which included more insight into the mysterious extra-terrestrial storyline, confirming that aliens will indeed be the threat within his upcoming film.
Peele asked that the audience not reveal any details about new footage since the trailer won’t officially arrive for several more weeks. However, the director did reveal that he shot the upcoming horror film in65 mm and IMAX, which allowed Peele to dabble in new techniques that no one had ever done. “This is definitely a ride. I like titles that are into how the audience is feeling and reflect on what they are thinking and feeling in the theater,” stated Peele. “I’m going to personally thrive on the amount of times that we hear ‘Nope’ in the theater.”
Nopewillreunite Peele with Daniel Kaluuya, who worked with the director on his first feature outing,Get Out. Alongside Kaluuya, the film will star Steven Yeun and Keke Palmer, who looked to play prominent roles in the narrative. Kaluuya and Palmer’s characters work at and own a Black-run horse farm, evident in the film’s limited footage. However, Yeun’s character has been somewhat of a mystery, with not much surfacing around his role besides his rodeo-like attire. More information will hopefully surface once the extended trailer appears for the public, which will build further anticipation within audiences.
Get Outwas a pinnacle moment for Peele, officially putting him on the directorial scene, which was accompanied by some notable award nominations. The director’s second outing,Us, failed to generate the same level of critical success, but audiences were still enamored with Peele’s unique take on the genre.Nopeappears to up the ante, based on the new innovations used by Peele to bring the narrative to life. It’ll be interesting to see how the film fairs once it’s released, but until then, the mystery will keep audiences guessing about what’s to come.
