Fans think that Lady Gaga’s newRain on Memusic video has references to theBayonettaseries. This could be the closest thing that fans get to seeing Gaga as a video game character since CD Projekt RED deniedrumors that the singer would be in Cyberpunk 2077.
In the music video forRain on Me, Lady Gaga and collaborator Ariana Grande perform an elaborate dance routine in a sci-fi-styled arena. As part of this dance, they also whip their hair around furiously in a way that was instantly compared toBayonetta, who isfamous for her hair-based attacks as her locks deal huge amounts of damage to enemies. The video game character also has incredibly high heels which she stores her guns in, and these also look a little similar to what Gaga and Grande are wearing.

The comparisons go beyond this. Some fans have also compared Gaga and Grande toBayonettaand Jeanne, who is her best friend and rival. The two also swap hairstyles during the series as Bayonetta trades her long locks for Jeanne’s tousled pixie cut, as shown in a few tweets from fans. Many knowAriana Grandefor her high ponytail, which is sported by Gaga in the music video, while Grande can be seen with her hair down in some scenes.
This would all be tenuous at best, but Lady Gaga is known for being aBayonettafan. In late 2018, Gaga tweeted several times about trying to completeBayonettaon her Nintendo Switch. She joked that she is a “secret gamer girl” and gave “gamer respect” to the experts, also saying that she needed “emotional support” to get through the harder parts of the game.
While most are just saying that it’s positive to see Gaga wearing her inspirations on her sleeve (or in her ponytail, in this case), others have called it a cry of support for theBayonettaseries. Just days ago, developer PlatinumGames had toconfirm thatBayonetta 3is in developmentafter fans questioned its whereabouts following a lengthy period of radio silence.
There’s the suggestion that theRain on Memusic video is Gaga’s way of begging forBayonetta 3to be released soon. In February, PlatinumGames also confirmed thatBayonetta 3’s development is going well. Fans would probably prefer a new trailer for the game but until that arrives, they’ll just have to play theRain on Memusic video on loop.
Bayonetta 3is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.
