A screenshot ofMarvel’s Avengers’cluttered equipment menu has some fans worried about the game. The screenshot, which showcases Iron Man’s inventory menu, features several aspects that fans have deemed undesirable, including seven apparent forms of currency and power rankings for individual items.

Square Enix has been open aboutMarvel’sAvengers’core mechanics and live service elements, elaborating on plans to introduce post-launch content since the game was announced. However, the interface doesn’t appear to be user friendly, with information scattered about and elements that will likely be too complex for younger audiences, which will undoubtedly be drawn to the idea of a superhero game.

“Isn’t it great how games are jobs now,” one user replied to the screenshot, in reference to the variety of material icons scattered around the menu screen, which players will likely have to grind for. Some compared the screenshot toDestiny 2,which features a similar, though less scattered, inventory system to manage gear, bounties, and other resources.

Some have even drawn comparisons to mobile game inventory menus, which are often critiqued for being cluttered and confusing. In the case ofMarvel’s Avengers, some pointed out the addition of an “Equip Best Gear” option as a redeeming quality, though it isn’t clear to what extent fans will be able to use this button to manage their inventory system beyond simply donning gear, as upgrades and dismantling both seem to be important.Marvel’s Avengersalso includes multiple heroes, with new ones likeHawkeye coming post-launch, so effectively managing the system may prove overly complex.

However, it is worth noting that the game isn’t finished yet, and there’s still plenty of time for the menu system to change. Square Enix has finally provided details about theMarvel’s Avengers’beta, and if the developer receives enough feedback about the inventory management system, it may make changes to the UI for simplicity’s sake. However, it may be more difficult to fix the game if it’s too grind-heavy to be enjoyable.

The firstMarvel’s Avengersgameplay trailerreceived a lukewarm reception. After its reveal, fans of the franchise criticized the game’s art style for being somewhere in the middle of the MCU look and the style of theAvengerscomic books. More recent gameplay demos have been more impressive, though fans will have to wait until they get their hands on it to truly pass judgment.

Marvel’s Avengersis in development now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
