Mods have finally arrived forMidnight Suns, with retextures of Captain Marvel, Magik, and Nico the highlight so far. Most of the mods for the game are cosmetic, and it’s no surprise. The game features manyiconic characters from the Marvel universe, so modders often can’t resist the urge to add variants of characters that fans know and love.

Midnight Sunswas released in December 2022 and isXCOMdeveloper Firaxis Games' attempt at a Marvel turn-based strategy game. The response has been generally positive, and the addition of modding is a feature that will only endear the developer to players. Their previous releases have a history of supporting the modding scene, so it won’t be a shock to players familiar with the developer.

The mod is one of the first released for the game, with the trio of heroines Captain Marvel, Magik, and Nico all receiving new in-game looks. The three are the starting female characters amongtheMidnight Sunsroster, meaning players can use this mod immediately after starting the game. The redesign is noticeably skimpier than the vanilla game, with all three characters showing more skin than their original design. However, this is done tastefully by the mod creator and avoids over-sexualising the characters.

One of the best features touted for the mod iscompatibility with other mods, often desired by PC players. In fact, it’s encouraged by the mod creator, who encourages players to combine their mod with hair packs to ensure the new redesigns look as good as possible. PC players often want a long mod list, and many games are easy to break when too many are installed.

The early success of theMidnight Sunsmodding scene is a healthy sign for both the PC community and the game itself. Games that support mods are often active years beyond their release date, with games likeElder Scrolls 5: Skyrimhaving a much longer lifespan than expected due to the modding community. While there will surely be DLC forMidnight Suns, it’s good that cosmetic mods are supported, as it would have been too easy for Firaxis Games to simply ban mods, instead choosing to sell cosmetics to players instead. There areunlockable suits inMidnight Suns, but having the option to mod in extras is great.

Midnight Sunsis available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One are currently in development for a later release.
