Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s special third-person game mode has received an important mechanical update following the feedback players provided to Infinity Ward after the final beta testing phase. Much like the originalModern Warfare 2from 2009, the newCall of Dutytitle comes with its own dedicated third-person over-the-shoulder mode that offers a substantially different gameplay experience compared to the usual FPS mode.

As the globalCODcommunity jumped into the fray with the recent launch ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, dedicated players began documenting all the differences between the earlier beta build and the game’s final version. Many of these differences related to balancing changes and progression systems, for example, but the third-person mode received a very prominent change in particular.

Infinity Ward appears to be listeningto its fans, as the developer took third-person mode feedback to heart. Namely, beta players took issue with the mode’s aiming mechanic, which shifted the player’s perspective from the default over-the-shoulder position to the classic first-person ADS mode. This wasn’t the case with the 2009 original, and Infinity Ward decided to walk back on this change, as the final build of the game features a system that has reminded some players of the oldSOCOMgames.

Reddit user Aguzo’s short gameplay demonstration shows plainly how the new system works. Players simply rely on a classic third-person zoom camera if their weapon uses iron sights or a low-zoom optics system. Anything higher than 4X zoom, however, shifts over into the ordinary first-person scope view, which is precisely how most third-person shooters otherwise work. It’s a relatively simple change, but players seem generally thrilled with it, making it one of the more widely acclaimedchanges from theModern Warfare 2beta.

Another major change compared to the beta is thatModern Warfare 2multiplayer enemies have red diamondsover their heads, effectively reducing the odds of sneaky players blending in with the environment. This alteration came about after players asked Infinity Ward to return the red nametags over players' heads, which the developer doesn’t seem to have wanted to do.

Many fans ofCODare already knee deep in the process ofunlocking Mastery Camos inModern Warfare 2, but it appears that the game is missing some features compared to its 2019 predecessor. The community has noticed that player statistics are nowhere to be found, for example, and it seems that there’s no option to create custom weapon blueprints, either. Whether these features make it back into the game at some point remains to be seen.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
