Back in June last year, THQ Nordic announced that it would be delivering three games from beloved franchises in the near future. These wereSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, Darksiders Genesis, and aDestroy All Humans!remake. While the other announcements were incredibly well-received, it was the latter that seemed to evoke the biggest fanfare, with long-time fans of Pandemic Studios' cult classic alien destruction simulator jumping at the chance to revisit the unique action title.
If those fans needed any more reason to be excited for THQ Nordic’s reimagining of the PlayStation 2 classic, a new gameplay video coming from PAX East shows that not only is the wacky gameplay ofDestroy All Humans!back, but it’s undeniably better than ever. The footage in question showcases the very start of the game, in which series' protagonist Crypto arrives on earth and lays waste to Turnipseed Farm.
RELATED:Destroy All Humans Remake Will Be A Lot Longer than the Original
As is evident from the moment the clip begins,Destroy All Humans!has never looked better, with the distinct caricature 50s style being brought to the modern-day in stunning high definition. It’s clear as well that a lot of the charming dialogue and humor of the classic game makes the cut as well, with the original voice actors being reused to make the cut-scenes feel torn straight from the original release.
From here, the gameplay shows many of the tried and tested elements of theDestroy All Humans!formula, with the player using telekinesis to launch cows, Crypto’s signature “Zap-O-Matic” electricity gun to fry farmers, and, of course, the ‘extract brain’ ability to feast on human brains. The majority of the footage then shows the player using these abilities to dispatch the farm’s occupants, however, there’s one surprise left in store.
As the police show up to the farm to report a disturbance, Crypto fries them, before getting into his UFO to burn down the entire farm. The gameplay shows that saucer combat is slicker than ever, with the player gliding around and using the death ray to burn down barns and houses. Eventually, the presence of the UFO alerts the armed forces, who arrive on the scene in tanks. The player then utilizes the death ray to eradicate their foes, leaving a destructive trail in their path. Overall, the footage is a clear indicator that the game is being brought back with complete authenticity in mind, with the game’s improved visuals and tighter gameplay merely enhancing what madeDestroy All Humans!such a beloved icon of thePlayStation 2 era.
Destroy All Humans!will launch later this year for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
