The newHellboymovie has completed its shooting stage and is ready to move forward, as confirmed by the original creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola. In other news, there’s a newHellboymovie coming out, and this is likely how at least several people discovered that fact.

Whenthe upcomingHellboyfilm was first announcedin February, there was little fanfare and a drought of information given. However, the big story is that the movie will be based onThe Crooked Man, one of theHellboycomic’s more popular stories. Not only that, but Mignola is on board as the scriptwriter, which should offer fans some much-needed assurance after David Harbour’s poorly-received 2019Hellboyreboot. It’s understandable how such a film could leave a bad taste in the mouths of those who loved Guillermo Del Toro’s excellentHellboymovies starring Ron Perlman. Now, the reboot machine is up and running again. Not only is Mignola involved, but he’s also particularly confident in what he’s seen of the film so far.

Mignola posted an update on his Instagram announcing the completion of filming forHellboy: The Crooked Man. Alongside some of the artwork from his original comics, Mignola offered some encouraging words regarding the movie’s progress. “So they’ve wrapped principal photography on the newHELLBOYmovie,” he wrote. “I wasn’t on set for this one but they have been nice enough to send me dailies and I have to say I have loved what I’ve been seeing. If fans have been waiting for a Hellboy film that is actually an adaptation of one of my stories I think they are finally going to get one.”

Mignola went on to praise and congratulate the folks behindthe highly-anticipatedHellboy: The Crooked Man. “Congratulations to director Brian Taylor and a really wonderful cast,” he continued. “And to co-writer Chris Golden who did so much to figure out how to give the studio what they wanted and still keep true to the heart and soul ofTHE CROOKED MAN, my favorite of the Hellboy stories. I wish Richard Corben was still around to see this–They did a wonderful job bringing his really horrific character to life.” Corben was one of several artists responsible for the darkly iconic look of the Hellboy character seen in the comics.

Hellboyfollows the titular half-demon as he works with the non-government agency known as the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.) to fight against variousthreats from simple nazisall the way to supernatural horrors. InThe Crooked Man, which is set in the 1950s, Hellboy finds himself in rural Appalachia alongside a rookie B.P.R.D. agent as they investigate a small village being terrorized by witches. During their time there, the two discover that the witches are led by a devil (The Crooked Man) who shares a concerning link with Hellboy’s past. The film will starDeadpool 2’s Jack Kesy in the lead role.

After such a quick filming process, starting in Bulgaria in March and already wrapping in May, maybe that means the rest of the production will be similarly timely. Of course, most things should never be rushed. But with the creator himself on board, perhaps some things can be safely streamlined. Either way, it’s good to see anotherHellboymovie on the dark, bloody horizon.
