The near future is looking pretty exciting for horror fans, with details aboutResident Evil Village DLCrumored to be on the horizon, as well the remake ofDead Spacedue out next summer. Speaking of the latter, aformerDead Spacedeveloper Glen Schofield’s new horror gamecalledThe Callisto Protocol, which is being created by Striking Distance Studios. Given that the Schofield’s name, who used to work at Visceral Games, is attached to this new project, many are excited to see how it will turn out. In the meantime, some new screenshots have been circulating.

In a post on Twitter, user Idle Sloth, courtesy of Game Informer’s Digital Issue, has uploaded a number of images fromThe Callisto Protocol, which are giving a lot of people some seriousDead Spacevibes. Much like Schofield’s most notorious work, this upcoming horror game will lean towards the more sci-fi aspects of the genre, and what will likely a return to some lovely gory body horror. The screenshots show a number of grotesque monsters, as well as some of the game’s locales.

It wasn’t that long ago thatSchofield unveiled a rather horrifying image fromCallisto Protocol, specifically a close-up of one of the monstrous creatures. There was also a message in the tweet that said there would be more news to follow, which is likely in relation to these new screenshots that have been doing the rounds lately. In general, it’s looking like a pretty intense and interesting horror game, with some saying that it’s almost like it will be a spiritual successor to the firstDead Spaceentry.

The game was originally conceived as an idea that would take place withinPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the hit battle royale shooter from 2017. It was intended to expand this game’s universe. However, very recently, Schofield announced thatThe Callisto Protocolwould not be set in thePUBG: Battlegroundsuniverse. Instead, it has grown to become its own story, though there is the possibility that Striking Distance’s game will have a few nods toPUBG.

It’s one of themost anticipated horror games of this year, and with theDead Spaceremake due out next year, there’s a lot for fans of scary games to look forward to. On top of that, there’s also speculation that Capcom may make an announcement about the heavily rumoredResident Evil 4remake, which many have been anticipating for some time now. All-in-all, horror lovers are keeping their collective ears to the ground for a lot of new titles.
