Just days after the June 21 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has announced a collaboration betweenSuper Marioand Oreo cookies for a limited time. As part of the collaboration, 16Super Mariocharacters will be featured on Oreo cookies. On social media, reception to the crossover was favorable, as fans looked forward to grabbing a batch of their own.In 2021, Oreo announced a collaboration with thePokemonseries, which featured 16 Pokemon on select packages of Oreo cookies in markets around the globe and online. However, much to the chagrin ofPokemonfans,scalpers resold Oreo cookies for ridiculous prices onlinewith cookies featuring Mew going as much as $1,000 each on eBay at the time. Preorders start at $4.99 and are limited to one package per order, according to Oreo. As part ofthis new crossover between Nintendo and Oreo, theSuper Mariocharacters and items that will be featured on Oreo cookies are Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Toad, Yoshi, Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Boo, Spiny, Piranha Plant, Blooper, a Coin, Super Mushroom, Fire Flower and Super Star. For the marketing campaign for this collaboration, Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, hence her absence from being featured on any of the Oreo cookies.
On social media,Super Mariofans reacted favorably to the news. While some remained skeptical that the cookies would be scalped and resold on eBay, just like thePokemonOreo cookies were, other fans had some fun with the unexpected announcement. Some joked that the Oreo cookies would be the “power-up” that would turn Mario into his Elephant Mario form inthe upcoming 2D platformerSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. The elephant form, along with more power-ups, will be featured prominently when the next entry in theSuper Marioseries launches in October. At the time of writing, there is no indication when theSuper Marioand Oreo crossover will end.
WhileOreo has collaborated with other series such asHaloandPokemonin the past, this will mark the first time that it has featured theSuper Marioseries in any of its products. Only time will tell if this collaboration will be a one-time thing or not.
