Pokemonremains one of Nintendo’s most popular franchise for good reason. Not only are there multiple majorPokemongames, likePokemon Brilliant Diamond,Pokemon Shining Pearl, andPokemon Arceus, released every year, but Nintendo also releases a huge amount of merchandise andPokemon-branded material. The latest example announced Wednesday morning is a special Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition made forPokemon Brilliant DiamondandPokemon Shining Pearl’s launch.
The new limited edition Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition is just as its name implies. It’s a unique version of theNintendo Switch Lite hardware, the Switch SKU that’s handheld-only and doesn’t work with the official Nintendo Switch television dock. The Device features a black finish, but on the back of the device are pictures of Dialga and Palkia in gold andd silver, respectively.

As with prior limited editions of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite hardware, the device does not come bundled with the games that it’s being marketed for.Pokemonfans will have to purchase their copy ofPokemon Brilliant DiamondorPokemon Shining Pearlseparately. However, in separating the two product, it allows Nintendo to release the Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition hardware earlier than it’s launching the two games. The limited-edition Nintendo Switch Lite will be available to purchase starting November 5.
Pokemonfans may recognize that the design of the Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition is familiar. That’s because thelimited edition Nintendo Switchis a throwback to a previously released device. In 2006, in celebration of the launch ofPokemon DiamondandPokemon Pearl, Nintendo released the Nintendo DS Lite Onyx Dialga & Palkia Edition. That limited edition Nintendo DS Lite featured the same Dialga and Palkia designs on its back, though the coloring was notably a bit more sparkly.
Much like the two newPokemongames, this new Nintendo Switch Lite is intended to be a throwback to thoseclassic days ofPokemon.Pokemon DiamondandPokemon Pearlwere many modernPokemonfans' first forays into the franchise. Now Nintendo is bringing them back, remade but authentic in all of the important ways. Hopefully, the Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition allows some fans to further embrace that nostalgia and make their journey back to the Sinnoh region that much more special.
No pre-order information has been made available as of yet for the Nintendo Switch Lite Dialga & Palkia Edition, but the device is expected to be priced similarly to otherNintendo Switch Lite hardware at $199. Expect pre-orders to sell out quickly.
