Summary

Resident Evilis enjoying an era of success that began around the time of the middle of the previous console generation’s cycle and into the present landscape. After weathering a rockier period from around 2009-2012, specifically whenRE5andRE6were released and received a less-than-warm welcome due to many fans' displeasure with their deviations from the series' survival horror core into more bombastic action territory, developer Capcom turned things around forResident Evilwith the reboot of the franchise in 2017’sResident Evil 7.This was followed two years later by the remake ofRE2, widely considered one of the best remakes in the industry to date, and setting the stage forRE’s triumphant return.

With 2023’sResident Evil 4remake becoming the fastest sellingRErelease, it’s pretty much a guarantee thatRE5will be getting the remake treatment eventually, and possible sooner rather than later, according to some reports. Fans are also awaiting news about the next mainline entry, presumablyResident Evil 9, assuming Capcom’s pattern of alternating releases between new titles and the numbered remakes holds firm. Though aRE5remake may have its share of issues carried over from the original that could impact how it ends up, there is another pattern seen in an element of the preceding remakes that it will likely adhere to, namely its achievement/trophy list and requirements.

Resident Evil 5’s Trophy/Achievement List Is Almost a Lock to Resemble Previous Remakes

Resident Evil Remake’s Shared/Similar Trophies List

TheResident Evilremakeshave seen a consistent pool of similar achievements, albeit with some slightly varied requirements depending on the title. Some of the more major shared trophies from theRE2remake throughRE4include:

Requirement

Minimalist

Don’t open an item box/use only a knife and handgun (RE4)

Complete the game under a certain time limit

Destroy all Charlie dolls

Leon “S.” Kennedy/Jill Valentine/S+ Rank Investigator

Complete the game with S+ Rank and/or on hardest difficulty

There are also a handful of others across all that have the same general requirement, such as upgrading weapons, expanding inventory to max slots, as well as enemy-specific achievements (shooting Mr. X’s hat off in theRE2remake, or downing Nemesis inRE3, for example.) Certain sections of each game also usually include some for specific segments, like escaping an encounter or solving a puzzle within a time limit etc. Finally, all titles featured a sort of subclass list that, while not tied directly to any trophies, offered a range of additional achievement-like challenges.

Resident Evil 5 Will Likely Follow the Other RE Remakes' Trophy List Closely

If the above can be taken as continuing to be consistent going forward, then regardless of any otherupdates or changes Capcom might make for theResident Evil 5remake, fans can then expect that it’s a good bet that it will follow in the other remakes' footsteps and contain most, if not all, of the above listed ones in some form, keeping their broad aspects under the same umbrella.

Something else to keep in mind too is thatResident Evil 5was originally designed with a heavy co-op focus, and though that decision proved somewhat divisive with fans, it may be also be a factor for Capcom to consider regarding if it will also lean into co-cop for its trophy list, which will be interesting to see. In any case, it is a high probability thatRE5’s all but certain eventual remake will fall in line with previous achievement parameters.
