The Shichibukai or the Seven Warlords of the Sea used to be a part of the Three Great Powers inOne Piece. The Three Great Powers consisted of the Marines, the Yonko, and the Shichibukai, and all three maintained the balance of power. The Shichibukai consist of seven of the most promising pirates inOne Piece, and to earn their loyalty the World Government made them lucrative offers. The World Government would freeze the bounties of the pirates, and they would also grant them more freedom than the regular pirates, and in return, the pirates would just have toserve the World Government.

Countless people had suffered because of the Shichibukai, and they went to the World Government with the plea to abolish the system. Admiral Fujitora led a very vocal campaign against the Shichibukai and finally at the recent Levely, the system was annulled. While it is beneficial in some ways, it also disrupts the balance of power. The World Government plans on using the Special Science Group to fill the void, but it is unknown whether they can be as effective. Withthe Shichibukai system gone, the pirates who were a part of the organization were once again considered the enemies of the World Government. At the time of its dissolution, there were still many notable characters, who were a part of the organization, and one of the biggest names among them was Dracule Mihawk.

His Involvement So Far

Dracule Mihawk was introduced all the way back in the Baratie arc. From the get-go, Mihawk appeared to be a very calm character. He chased Don Krieg and his fleet and destroyed all of it just because they had disturbed his nap. One pirate taking down an entire fleet by himself is something that is not common, and to top it all off, Mihawk fought and defeated Zoro, with a small knife. Zoro was using his best techniques, but he couldn’t even graze Mihawk. Before leaving, the Shichibukai used his blade to make a bigwound across Zoro’s chest, which would serve as a reminder of the latter’s failure.

Mihawk’s next big appearance was in the Summit War. The Marines were planning to execute Portgas D. Ace, and they were expecting Whitebeard to turn up at Marineford, so they gathered all the Shichibukai to fight against the Whitebeard Pirates. Mihawk clashed against several characters at Marineford, but he wasn’t even scratched, which shows how powerful he is.

Unparalleled Swordsmanship

Mihawk holds the title of the “Strongest Swordsman In The World.” This essentially means when it comes to pure swordsmanship, there is no one else, who can compare to him. Mihawkpossesses the all-black blade, Yoru, which is one of the few known Saijo O-Wazamono grade swords. A single slash from Mihawk’s sword was enough to cut through a gigantic iceberg at Marineford.

In the past, Mihawk used to be rivals with Shanks, who is now one of the Yonko. Whitebeard mentioned that the battles between the two swordsmen shook the entire world. However, after Shanks lost his arm, Mihawk’s interest in him dwindled. Ever since Mihawk lost Shanks as his rival, he has been on the lookout for opponents, who could take him down. The true extent of Mihawk’s strength remains unknown, but that will change in the final saga.

Role In The Final Saga

Dracule Mihawk remains a mysterious character and there is still a lot that the fans do not know about him and his abilities, and due to this, there are many questions surrounding him, especially concerning his past. He is the only pirate, who does not have a crew, and he travels alone. Many theories suggest that Mihawk is of royal blood and that he may be linked to the Five Elders. While there are others, who think that Mihawk is the son of Rayleigh. However, there is not a great deal of proof available for either of the two theories.

As things stand, it seems very likely that Mihawk might have a crucial role to play in the final saga after all Oda wouldn’t be been saving Mihawk all this time for nothing. Mihawk along with Boa and Weevil arethe only three Shichibukai, who haven’t been involved in any serious fight in the series so far. During his last appearance, Mihawk’s place was surrounded by the Marines, but he wasn’t bothered by it in fact, he was thrilled at the prospect of becoming a wanted man once again.

There is no doubt that Mihawk will fight the Marines as they cannot afford to let him run loose.

One thing that is for certain is that Mihawk is going to go up against Roronoa Zoro at some point. The build-up to the battle between Mihawk and Zoro started all the way back in East Blue, and it seems unlikely that Oda will pass up the opportunity. There is a tiny possibility that Mihawk could be killed by someone else, and then Zoro would fight the newly crowned “Strongest Swordsman in the World.” Whatever Mihawk’s fate will be in the final saga, one thing is for certain: he will go down as one of the coolest characters in the entireOne Pieceseries.
