Summary

Overwatch 2has seen a variety of new additions in the past few weeks, including a mid-season patch, Hero Mastery missions, and now the 2023 Anniversary event that will last until October 9. According to notes from the developers, players will be able to revisit Arcade game modes from past seasonslike Battle for Olympusand Winter Wonderland. Next week is expected to see Catch-A-Mari and Starwatch: Galactic Rescue return, while week three will reintroduce the Summer Games events paired with Mischief & Magic.

In addition to the Arcade matches, theOverwatch 2Shop has added an Anniversary tab, which contains nine Legendary and Epic skins from past seasons of the hero-shooter. The Shop is a unique feature that wasn’t in the initial game, so this is the first time that an Anniversary category like this has been created. Fortunately, the feature does well to negate a few issues that people have had about some skins.

Overwatch 2’s Anniversary Shop Promotes Accessibility

Trying to determine what can buy specific skins can be quite confusing, especially since there are four main currencies in the game. Players should be pleased to see that each of the Anniversary skins can be acquired via Legacy Credits.Though Legacy Credits first originated fromOverwatchprime, they can be easily earned by completing both the premium and free tracks of the seasonal battle pass. Going up eight hero levels a week also provides a batch of Credits.

Legacy Credits are considered one of the easier currencies to get because players just need to play to procure them. Though all the Epic and Legendary-tier skins from the originalOverwatchcan still be found in the Hero Gallery, this doesn’t include ones from the sequel. As such, it is exciting that the Anniversary Shop is reintroducingskins such as Beekeeper Sigma, Space Raider Cassidy, Ice Angel Echo, and Infinite Ace D.Va for a “free” price tag.

Blizzard’s decision to give many of these sought-after skins another runin theOverwatch 2Shopseems like a smart move, though it may be a bit upsetting for those who spent real life currency to get a skin to see others getting it with free credits. On the other hand, those who didn’t manage to grab the skins when they first came out can obtain them now. This includes those who only recently started playing.

Of course, the Overwatch 2 Anniversary Shop isn’t just beneficial for new players. Those who played the firstOverwatchgame likely amassed an impressive collection of skins from eventsand loot boxesover the years. Due to this, earning free credits to spend on old skins may feel redundant, as they wouldn’t have much to buy. Now that Legacy Credits can be exchanged for newer skins, veteran players should be able to find good use for them.

Seeing as the Shop is expected to close on October 16, players should beginsaving their Legacy Creditsfor the cosmetics they desire most. It should be noted that the developers are planning on releasing more skins in future seasons, so it may not be a wise idea to spend everything all at once. Still, if players find themselves lacking Legacy Credits, there’s plenty of opportunity to earn more now. Completing tiers in the Season 6 battle pass is a valid method, alongside participating in the Anniversary event challenges, which can yield up to 3,000 Legacy Credits.

Which skins could see a return to the Shopin the coming seasons ofOverwatch 2is still to be determined. All the skins during the Anniversary event were Epic or Legendary, so it seems that the same category is likely to be considered. Unfortunately, Blizzard has yet to release any further details.

Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
