With Sony finally revealing the PlayStation 5 in its recentFuture of Gaming broadcast, players are more excited than ever to finally get their hands on the advanced piece of next-generation hardware. Now they know about what the console looks like, what it boasts in terms of technical upgrades, and what titles they can play on it, fans are turning their attention to the PlayStation 5’s currently unknown price tag.
In turn, a number of major voices within the gaming community have shared their opinions about how much players should expect to part with when the console eventually drops. While many might expect the YouTuber threw out a predicted price, he instead claimed that the lack of a price tag likely doesn’t bode too well for players expecting a bargain. Discussing the memes surrounding Sony’s newest console,PewDiePiestarts by joking about the company’s strange aversion to revealing a specific price point, highlighting a few memes that poke fun at the console manufacturer’s reluctance. He then recalls the release of the PlayStation 4, stating “when they announced the PlayStation 4, the price was amazing and they were so proud of it, there was no way they were not going to have it as part of their presentation.” He’s entirely correct and, as many will remember, it was a strong reason that the console took such a headstart during the early months of this generation.
With that in mind, he goes on to point out that “the fact that they haven’t announced the price is not good news.” In truth, while it’s always fun to speculate about what Sony is going to price its newest console, the YouTuber makes a very good point. While many think the company’s secrecy boils down to trying to stay competitive against Microsoft, it also seems plausible that Sony didn’t want to cause backlash with a high price point amidst its first majorPlayStation 5reveal.
It’s undeniably an interesting point that offers a strong counter-argument to the likes of former Xbox exec Albert Penello, who got a lot of fans excited whenhe recently predicted that the PlayStation 5 had to be under the $500 mark. While it’s definitely fun to speculate, it’s also worth fans not getting their hopes up, as a strong price point definitely would’ve been one of PlayStation’s biggest marketing focuses.
