WhenPokemon Ruby and Sapphirelaunched in 2003, they introduced 135 new Pokemon for players to add to their collections. One such new Pokemon was Shroomish, a Grass-type Pokemon that evolves into Grass/Fighting-type Pokemon Breloom at level 23. Breloom hasn’t been featured regularly in newmain seriesPokemongamesfor quite a few years, but it will be making its big comeback inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Thelatest trailer forPokemon Scarlet and Violetfocused primarily on the games' battle mechanics. Besides giving fans a new look atPokemon Scarlet and Violetbattles, the trailer revealed brand-new Pokemon Cyclizar and put the spotlight on some of the returning Pokemon. One such returning Pokemon is none other than Breloom, which was shown using Bullet Seed with the assistance of the new Loaded Dice item, which increases the chances of multi-strike moves landing multiple hits.

Breloom has been largely absent from brand-new main seriesPokemongames for quite some time. While Breloom is obtainable in the remakesPokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Pokemon was completely unavailable in new gamesPokemon Sword and ShieldandPokemon Legends: Arceus. It also wasn’t available to catch natively inPokemon Sun and MoonorUltra Sun and Ultra Moon, with the only way for players to get it being thePokemon Bank.

So prior toPokemon Scarlet and Violet, and discounting remakes likeBrilliant Diamond and Shining PearlandOmega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the last timePokemonfans could get Breloom was the Generation 6 gamesPokemon X and Y, which launched in 2013. It’s unclear why Breloom has been absent for so long, but its return has been well-received by fans. After all, even though Breloom was available to catch in thePokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearlremakes, it was still trapped in those games, with players unable to transfer it toPokemon Sword and ShieldorPokemon Legends: Arceus, so it’s definitely great to see it finally get more time in the main series spotlight.

Breloom is just one of many returning Pokemon inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, though there will also be some Pokemon missing from the new games. The full list of missing Pokemon has not been revealed at the time of this writing, and it’s likely that fans will have to wait to play the games for themselves to find out who all didn’t make the cut. In the meantime, there will be plenty ofbrand-new Pokemon inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, so fans should be kept plenty busy trying to catch them all.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetlaunch on November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
