Summary

Within a day of its release, aPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer developed a strategy for defeating Primarina the Unrivaled in a single hit. ThePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer shared a video of their strategy, and elaborated on the items and moves they used to defeat the new Seven-Star Tera Raid boss so quickly.

Known as the Soloist Pokemon, Primarina is the second Alolan starter Pokemon to appear asa Seven-Star Tera Raid boss inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, behind Decidueye. As the fully evolved form of Poplio and Brionne, Primarina is usually considered a Water and Fairy dual-type Pokemon with one of the highest special attack statistics among all starter Pokemon. In the latest Seven-Star Tera Raid battle at the time of writing, Primarina the Unrivaled was given the Fairy-type as its Tera type, and the hidden ability Liquid Voice to bolster its signature attack, Sparkling Aria. Primarina’s other moves are Psychic, Moonblast, Sing, Surf, and Encore.

WhileFairy-type Pokemon can be toughfor unprepared trainers to handle, onePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer made easy work out of Primarina. A Reddit user called Hoopawho shared a 29-second video on the r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit that showed how they took down Primarina the Unrivaled within one move. In the video, Hoopawho’s team consisted of a Pincurchin, an Iron Treads, and two Perrserkers, with three team members being Steel-type Pokemon that can deal extra damage to Fairy Pokemon. Before the first turn, Pincurchin’s Electric Surge ability automatically set up an Electric Terrain on the battlefield. The terrain then activated Iron Treads' ability, Quark Drive, which boosted its Attack power. Each Perrserker came with the ability of Steely Spirit, a stacking ability that increases the potency of Steel-type attacks.

How to Defeat Primarina the Unrivaled In One Hit

On the first and only full turn of thePokemonbattle, Pincurchin stood back while its trainer used an Attack Cheer on the party. One Perrserker used Screech to lower Primarina’s defense, and the other used Helping Hand on Iron Treads. Knowing thatSteel-type Pokemon are a direct counterto Fairy-type Pokemon, Iron Treads used its Steel Roller attack to one-shot Primarina before the Soloist Pokemon could get a move in. Hoopawho later stated they gave Iron Treads a Choice Band and maxed out the effort values (EVs) of its Attack statistic as part of the plan.

With Hoopawho’s video now out there, Primarina joinsMeganium as a Seven-Star Tera Raid Pokemonthat a coordinatedPokemonteam can swiftly beat. Only time will tell what strategiesPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers will develop.
