While it has been widely criticized by many fans, it seems as thoughPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Dudunsparce design may be a bit more interesting than one may realize at first glance.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetadded over 100 new Pokemon to the franchise, ranging from entirely new species to new evolutions for existing Pokemon. One such Pokemon that received a new evolution inPokemon Scarlet and Violetwas Normal-type Pokemon Dunsparce.
Dunsparce was first introduced in theGeneration 2Pokemongames, and has often been cited as a Pokemon in desperate need of an evolution. Game Freak finally created its own evolution for Dunsparce with Dudunsparce inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, but many fans weren’t happy about the design. Dudunsparce is essentially a bigger version of Dunsparce with more segments to its body, but it’s been discovered that there is a bit more to its design.

As pointed out by Reddit user SmolivYeah, thesegments of Dudunsparce’s bodyare numbered by the stripes on them as well as the wings that are attached to them. The segment closest to Dudunsparce’s head has three lines on its back and three feathers on its wings, whereas the second segment has two lines and two feathers, and the smallest segment has one line and one feather. Judging by the comments on the possible, this particular detail went unnoticed by manyPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers.
This interesting detail may makePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers more appreciative of Dudunsparce’s design. It’s worth pointing out, though, that not all Dudunsparce have three segments to their bodies. Themore common Dudunsparcesare the two-segment ones, whereas the three segment Dudunsparce is extremely rare since they can’t be found in the wild and are only obtainable by evolving a Dunsparce.
Whenever aPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer evolves Dunsparce, they have an extremely slim chance of getting a three segment Dudunsparce. For those curious on how toevolve Dunsparce into Dudunsparce inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, they need to level up Dunsparce while it knows the move Hyper Drill. Dunsparce is capable of learning the move Hyper Drill at level 32, but as usual, players have the option of making it so their Dunsparce never learns it.
The three segment Dudunsparce is rare enough, but shiny hunters have an even greater challenge ahead of them. Theshiny three segment Dudunsparceis one of the rarest shiny Pokemon in series history, and so players shouldn’t hold their breath that they will have the chance to catch one.
