These quests are simple enough, requiring players to complete tasks like catching a Pokemon or picking up 10 items off of the ground, and completing 10 unlocks a red quest that is usually a little more complicated but offers greater rewards. For completing BBQs, players can earn BP, which is a currency that is vital to unlocking everything in The Indigo Disk, so working to complete the DLC in its entirety involves a lot of BBQ grinding.
The Indigo Disk’s BBQs Are a Great Idea that Suffers from Tedium
Since BP serves as the primary currency at Blueberry Academy, players will want to tackle as many BBQs as possible in order to access all the content in the DLC. Players will need to spend BP if they want to access the trials necessary for facing the BB League’s Elite Four, but it is also necessary for spending on important evolutionary items at the school store. It’s also useful for donating to other clubs to unlock features likewild starter Pokemon spawningin the Terarium’s different biomes. As such, it’s likely players will spend a lot of their time in The Indigo Disk grinding BBQs for BP in order to progress.
In theory, BBQs are a great idea for anopen-world game likePokemon Scarlet and Violetsince it allows players to tackle simple quests that they would likely complete just by exploring the world around them. The addition of online co-op allows players to work together to complete BBQs for even more BP, making it another great activity to participate in with friends. However, the pitiful amount of BP that BBQs award combined with the expensive price of unlocking everything in the DLC means these quests end up being a chore for many players, even when reaping four times the BP from online play.
How BBQs Could Be Improved in The Indigo Disk
The biggest drawback of BBQs is how paltry the amount of BP they award players is, with most quests not being worth the time it takes to complete them. Most quests earn players between 20 and 40 BP per standard blue quest, 100 and 200 for red quests, and up to 600 for Union Circle exclusive gold quests. However, compared to the cost of some rewards, like the ability to unlock wild starter spawns in all biomes costing a total of 12,000 BP, these quests can be a massive time sink for players and ultimately detract fromThe Indigo Disk DLC’s overall experience.
Instead, BBQs should have offered greater payouts of BP for completion, even if that means increasing their difficulty a bit. A fun way this could have been implemented would be to give players the chance to earn a massive amount of BP for imposing certain challenges upon themselves, like defeating a trainer using only one type of creature or even finding ashiny Pokemon. Aside from this improvement, decreasing the BP prices necessary to unlock certain features would have made grinding BBQs much more manageable and likely resulted in them being a more enjoyable experience for players.
